Lens hood

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I'm new to Leica, just ordered my first M6ttl .58 with the Tri-elmar (E3) 28-35-50. Is there a rectangluar hood for this lens and if so where can I get it. Thanks Chad

Chad,

You show admirable taste! AFAIK, there is no rectangular hood for the Tri-Elmar but I copied the following from a Leica brochure:

"Lens hood for LEICA TRI-ELMAR-M 28-35-50mm f/4 ASPH. Round, slip-on lens hood made of aluminum. Can be placed over the lens in reverse position for transportation. Unobstructed viewfinder image due to special design. Order No.12450"

I don't know where you can get it in your part of the world but I expect any Leica dealer would be happy to help. BTW, you shouldn't need a hood, according to Leica, unless you use filters. They say that the lens has its own "built-in hood", due to the fact that the front element is recessed into the body to an extent that depends on the focal length you select.

The hoods that fit the 21 and 24 Asp Elmarit's also fit the Trielmar.
