Griz, Jeeps old dog. Some preachin too.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

The old dog was walkin around lookin like a buffalo. Head down while he stumped along slowly -makin his way to the enclosed back porch. I swear ya'll could almost see the anguish and pain in his old bleary eyes. It was nuff to make ya'll want to just bawl--real loud! Ole Jeep came out of the house, reached down and rubbed ole Griz's ears and thump thump thump'd'm on the side knockin the dust outta his thick curly hair. Griz seemed to kinda grin whilst that task was bein done. He turned slowly and follered ole jeep out to where I'd parked Lil Dumplins pickup. By the time ole Griz had made it I'd already taken out a foldin chair and set down, ole jeep had dropped the tailgate and set down.

Battle scars all over his old body but still he has to "protect" the homestead--at least that's what he thinks!

About 10 years old now and absolutely full of "ole Arther" makes walkin rather difficult for ole Griz. A couple aspirns when the weather is cold and damp usually helps "limber'm" up a mite in an hour or so.

Last week ole jeep was on the roof of his shop workin. Ole Griz never seen'm get up there. Jeep started talkin to'm-Griz listenin but not see'n. This transpired for better part of a half hour--jeep talkin to'm and Griz listen but not findin. I really believe if Griz has seen the ladder he would've climbed it!

"Sammy and Willie" are the two porkers that's waitin in the wings for cold weather. Both of'm are BIG hogs and ole jeeps deepfreezer is most empty! So's mine! Rekon I could help'm butcher'm? Yeah, that don't sound too bad!!! Now, if we'ns could only get "Elmer" [jeeps wifey] to build some of those "hoot donuts" on butcher'n day!

Thanksgiving is at hand. What do ya'll have to be thankful for?

Thank you Lord for all the Blessings of this life. May we never forget where they all come from. Old hoot. Matt.24:44

Hooter, there is a horse medicine called "phenyl buth a zone", I cannot spell it correctly, but it works. My 16 year old lab/weimariner froliced like a puppy for an hour or so when he got it. It lasted about 6 hours, it came from any feed store. Just scrape a bit from the large pill on to the dogs food or give the dog a small amount of KNOX gelatin (about 1/4 of a sewing thimble full) each day. It is collegen, what the body uses to make the padding between bones, his last days were comfortable....
