Top aide of bin Laden detained, daily says 11/19/2001

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 20 (Kyodo) _ A top aide of Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in the Sept. 11 suicide attacks on the United States, was detained in Peshawar in Pakistan's northwest near the Afghan border on Monday, a Pakistani daily reported Tuesday.

Fazle Raziq, the detainee, ''was traveling on sabotage mission, which entailed action against American military targets in Kuwait,'' the Frontier Post said, quoting unnamed sources.

The suspect was quizzed by ''a joint interrogation team, which comprises both civil and military officials,'' it added.

An unnamed analyst told the Peshawar-based newspaper: ''Without doubt, Raziq is a prize quarry. This may very well be the beginning of the end for bin Laden.''

The daily did not, however, provide any further information.
