Solano want to return to Boca

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Well you all may have seen the transfer news when BBS was down yesterday but this was something that caught my eye.

Finish his career at Boca!? He might as well go now as he seems to have finished playing at NUFC!

I saw on the match 'highlights' that he had a good 'one two' with Hughes to set up the goal, did he do anything else during the game, anyone who was there?

Obviously I should have said wants not want.

Another typical game from Nobby, tho in the first half of the first half, he looked OK. But he wasn't alone. The whole midfield was cr@p (again). It only improved when Bellamy dropped back allowing Robert to partner Shearer up front.

I saw this reported in the SS - along with YBR's continued interest in Emmerton. However, it also said that Rob Lee is likely to stay until the end of the season. Well, if Emmerton's any good, get him now. The lad himself (or was it "an informed source in Australia") said that Feyenoord will take less than the £15m they're asking. That's just a "come as close as you can" figure. £9.5m then.

I agree, there needs to be consistency in the midfield and Speed and Lee just don't do it. It would make such a difference to have quality in there then if the wingers are closed down (Which they are now in every game now that everyone's sussed robert) we still have a threat from midfield.

I saw Dunn mentioned again but can't see it happening. A Man U fan I know reckons NUFC made an enquiry about Scholes last week! If any of this is true, it at least shows there is money around and the club recognise the need to get a new MF asap.

Id rather have Scholes anyday rather than emerton , did anyone see the Oz France game , I thought Emerton was cr*p . He tried to keep hold of the ball instead of taking the easy pass , and he lost it everytime he had a couple of long distance shots with about the same accuracy as out B Lee.

Oh well we will probably buy him then!

Id even play bassadas and Acuna , rather than Lee n Speed. Bassadas will give all and gets stuck in in the tackle although i admit he did pull out of tackles at first.

KB, Bassedas has had more than enough chances to prove his worth and he has failed consistently to do so. Time to say goodbye (tho I'd rather it had been good buy) to CB. Shame.

Anyone ever consider that our "m/f problem" might just be more related to Robert and Solano rather than Lee and Speed?

Just a thought!

Exaggerated width, great in theory, difficult to play.

I dont think bassadas HAS been given enough chances , he's come on as sub a few times and done ok. Hes better than Gary speed has been this season.

I have Clarky , cos it works with Beckham/Giggs,!! nuff said

Clarky, our midfield has been sh*te for four years and the common denominators are Lee and Speed so it's hard to blame it on anyone else. I think they both can have wonderful games but not every game, hence need to replace one or both.

I do not think Bassedas has had a fair go, he needs to be started in at least half a dozen games to assess him, not play one come on as sub etc.

Emerton was playing to his coaches instructions not to take on players, he wanted him to be more supportive of the FB who was also instructed to not go too far forward. Farina used the game to assess his players under pressure as he knows what they are like attacking. The weakness OZ has had is defending a lead, it cost them places in 2 out of 3 world cups, (Play offs against Iran and Argentina)

He may be a little better tomorrow night.

I am glad you fonts of football knowledge want to right him off after 1 viewing against the World and European champions. It is time all of our squad was sold and replaced immediately with the best 16 players in the world. If they fail to impress buy another, the ultimate rotation system.

hScreacer, the informed Oz sauce was Emertons manager. He said they were only trying to attract the highest bid, but would accept a lot less.

If Bassedas was to settle into our team, we'd need someone who can really hold the midfield together for the season.

Vieira was pretty poor in his first Arsenal season - it picked up towards the end, but Petit was his mentor - two very similar players who played through balls to the strikers, neither were "goalscoring midfielders" like Speed.

Just wondering, have we ever played Lee and Bassedas together?

Bassedas has had more than enough chances - to at least show something/anything. Face it, the guy is a total dud.

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2001

He does seem like a total dud, but as a long shot he might come good.

Unlikely, but we might have to get used to it if Rob Lee is off to West Ham before we replace him. Acuna and Speed would then be first choice - and fit Dyer in there as well.

What are our midfielders in the reserves and youth team like? McClen has never struck me as special, and the youth team seems to have good strikers and defenders but no midfielders that I've heard of.

Just found out that Matt Holland is 28 as well. He looks much younger, but 28 is pretty damn old.

How the hell did that happen?

-- Anonymous, November 21, 2001

There's nothing much in the Reserves Paul - McGlen, Green and Kerr have no physical presence and don't look the biz to me. However, I actually reckon McGlen is probably as good as Bassedas!
