Problems with SB28 flash

I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with their SB28 just firing randomly... I took it in to Nikon, they said they fixed it, but it still does it. Any ideas why this happens?

Mine does that sometimes. It seems to do it more when either the contacts are dirty or if I use the flash without tightening the connector between the camera and flash.

I had the same problem with mine soon after purchasing it. I sent it into Nikon for warranty repair and (knock on wood) it's been fine since. Too bad this seems to be such a prevalent problem, as I really like this flash.

I've seen many posts elsewhere regarding this same problem and I'm sure Nikon is aware of it. If it's still under warranty, by all means send it back again.

This Problem is common in many SB-26/28 Speedlights. I had the problem in my SB-26 and Nikon fixed it without charge even though the unit was 3years past it's warranty period. Apparently it is due to a short that occurs between 2 PC-boards. If you've never pulled one of these guys apart then you would be shocked to see how cramped the electronics are. I think they fix the problem with some insulation material.
