All right, don't have an aneurysm or you may miss your own campaign for a Champion's League place.

I'm not entirely sure I approve of the Care in the Community scheme after all.

Prepare to laugh your drawers off, lads and lasses, the Wearside Roar has published on its site loads of pictures of our defeat: things must be desperate in the Village of the Damned.

FTM, didn't I see you on that programme "Neighbours from Hell"?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Elitist?

I think that says more about their envious paranoid psychology (if one can accept they have climbed the evolutionary ladder sufficiently to have one)

Dont be bitter and twisted all yer life.....

Good luck in your next game.

"Doing a Bobby here"

I never knew I could be 'done' - learn something new every day

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Roly, I think you are on an upturn: I've said it on here hundreds of times, come the autumn and heavy pitches, the hoooooooooooof prevails and you lot start picking up points - til about February.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Not necessarily so Dougal. Wasn't it last season or the one before that they didn't get a win/point in the whole of Jan/Feb??? Sure, hoooooof might work, but you have to have the players to play it and I think even the Mackems reckon they don't have enough depth in their squad.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

I think our season will be in reverse this year...ie, poor first half and good second instead of the other way round..... and also the halves are turning into thirds ie, this year will be a poor first third and a cracking last two 2/3rds..... if that makes sense!!!! Europe beckons.....

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

so you reckon Murray will apply for the Intertoto this time then

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

...all off the back of a good home win against the league leaders. Sounds a bit familiar. Sure you're not a Mag in disguise Roly ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Actually Liverpool became the league leaders on Saturday, so the Mackems only beat the #2 team. ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Oh, so you've actually found a league table to look at, have you?? If you're gonna split hairs, I'm not playing :-( Anyway, Liverpool have no right to be up there. Surely first spot is reserved for ManUre, so technially, Leeds must have been third. No wonder they lost ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Roly, if you get into Europe (which you might although your squad is probably the worst you've had in the PL), it'll be a miracle: I can think of least 10 teams that are much better than Sunderland or Newcastle.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

BTW, those teams are: ManUtd, Liverpool, Leeds, Chelsea, Arsenal, Fulham, Spurs, Villa, Blackburn and Bolton and that's without teams like Boro, West Ham and Ipswich who have great first teams (in the case of West Ham, significantly better than SAFC or NUFC) and could put together decent runs. If last year was the crappest PL on record, this looks like being the tightest.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Howay man dougal, Blackburn and Bolton MUCH better than nufc? have you had a long lunch today or what?

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Crikey Dougal. What are you on right now? Notlob? Fulham?? Blackburn??? None of these, plus many of those in your "10 better" has the depth to make it to Europe and quite frankly my dear, are as inconsistent as us. Due to this, the league is tight as you say. But none of them is much better than NUFC or SAFC.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

And based on performances this season, as opposed to hype and expectation, Chelsea aren't up there either.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

I (think) I see your point dougal, but the fact remains; if we win against Derby on Saturday, we could go joint top. Crazy, but true.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Screach, I said Top 10 - Bolton and Fulham could both end up in the top 10 and as for sustaining a campaign to get into Europe, have you forgotten Ipswich last year (admittedly they are falling behind now, but we are talking about this season). Fulham are much better than Ipswich and have players like Marlet coming back from injury. Blackburn are benefitting from a tremendous youth policy and have funds to buy. Agree that Chelsea won't challenge for the top but have actually been beaten once in the league so far so they aren't as lightweight as we might think. The big thing this season is that none of the sides that have come up are obviously going back down again. There's also an element of survival of the richest this season since Fulham and Blackburn are well off and Bolton have some funds which may account for clubs like Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich struggling so badly..?? In any event, I think there are a good few teams with better chances for that 6th spot than NUFC and SAFC.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Not sure I'd say many of those teams have better chances than us. I think it's going to be a very tight race for that 6th spot. And hoping the battle for the top spot is just as tight among 3 or 4 teams. It'll certainly make for a far more interesting spring than the last couple of seasons.

-- Anonymous, November 19, 2001

Dougal do you want anymore rope???

Listen.... end of the season is the time to judge and not until.... IMHO you lot are a top 10 side.... also IMHO we will finish between 4th and 7th....

And..... our current squad is the best I've ever seen at Roker/SOL.... ever..... They just need to play together a bit better!!!

ciao

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2001

4th-7th roly? I was believing you for a mo!

As posted on another thread I reckon we can end up 5th and 6th or 15th and 16th

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2001

Sorry, Roly: your squad overall (as opposed to first teams which are probably much of a muchness) isn't even as good as ours. Reidy who most of you lot wants sacked is a good manager who can get better results than the team would expect to achieve but it will be his management rather the quality of your squad.

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2001

"Murdered off Fulham?"

I know, it's terrible, of course Sunderland would have stuffed Fulham at Craven Cottage wouldn't they?

At least we were beaten by a team that was on form, not a Fulham side struggling to find their feet, playing around with 2 from 4 strikers to find the right balance.

Equally, we could say, "Murdered off Boro / Man Utd Reserves / Leicester / Spurs / Sheffield Wednesday", but I don't believe we have.

Get a life you sad twat

-- Anonymous, November 20, 2001

don't know how you get that most of us want reid sacked Dougal.... is that from that cross representation of mackems RTG?????

-- Anonymous, November 21, 2001

Don't you read the letters pages or listen to the local radio, Roly? It has been staggering the abuse Reid has got from your lot. Haven't looked at RTG since the 1999-00 season so I wouldn't know what the opinion on there was.

-- Anonymous, November 21, 2001

Metro used to be full of Mackems phoning in demandiny Reid's head, all this about how he's taken them as far as they can go.

Couldn't be an imitation, surely nobody can pull off an accent like that?
