Just picked up my Leica IIIf camera from the mail! :)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just got my first Leica rangefinder which is a screw mount camera--the beloved Leica IIIf modified from a Leica IId? I just know that the flash sync is added and it's definitely a user's camera. I loaded up some 100 speed Superia film and shot one roll so far so good. Hope to get it developed during my engagement vacation :)...

Cutting the film was enjoyable and loading it takes me on average about 3-4 minutes which isn't too bad :) I don't have any complaints and it's definitely air tight. By the way, I didn't realize how small and light Leica LTM cameras are. I am appreciate why a lot of dudes prefer them to even the M cameras!...

Alright I did put on my 45mm Industar lens from the FED-3 and it fits rather well. I do have the 90mm and 135mm for telephotic shooting but no wide angles yet... too expensive but shooting with the Russian lens is a great outfit and certainly a lot more creative than the point and shoots :)

Leicafully, Alfie

What's the question?

Who said there has to be a question? Albert is just sharing his experience with us which I for one appreciate.

Hey Alfie, would you let Bernardo Canizares know the price of your Leica IIIf? He posted a question earlier wanting to know how much his IIIf is worth: http://greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch- msg.tcl?msg_id=0073nK. Cheers!

I paid 197 dollars for my Leica IIIf. It was a good deal :). This is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&item=1294160129

The serial number is DRP No. 245237.

Albert seems to be sharing his whole life story with us these days!

Signs of a lonely existence. Alone with more cameras than people.

-- Alec (alecj@bellsouth.net), November 17, 2001.

He's going on an engagement vacation which suggests that he has a girlfriend so he can't be that lonely. 8-)

-- Fred Sun (redsky3@yahoo.com), November 17, 2001.

Alfie has too much time on his hands. He needs to get a real job.

-- Dave Jenkins (djphoto@vol.com), November 17, 2001.

Congrats on your IIIf!

I would consider sending it to Don or Sherry for a CLA. They come back as completely different cameras, just like factory made them.

Take a hard look at the new Voigtlander wideangles. I have the 15, 21, and 28. They are very good lenses. CameraQuest sells them at very good prices.

Enjoy!

Hallo Tony,

please donīt talk him into more lenses. The poor chap is going to marry. And with all these investments he might not make it in the end.

Best wishes

Welcome to the "club", Alfie. Have fun shooting.

Alfie, enjoy your IIIf. To get the true 100 per cent purist Leica flavour I'd prefer to use Leitz glass as well, even the old stuff. But perhaps that's just me? Does your fiancee like your Leica too?

-- David Killick (Dalex@inet.net.nz), November 17, 2001.

Alfie, Get all the Leica bodies and lenses you can or can't afford before you get married. Trust me! The next one should be the 280mm f/2.8 APO and don't forget the 2x APO!

-- ray tai (razerx@netvigator.com), November 17, 2001.

This guy Alfie is singlehandledly ruining this forum. I, for one, am tired of his compulsive behavior and misinformation. Any way to block his comments?

-- Gulley Jimson (gulleyjimson@hotmail.com), November 17, 2001.

What's wrong with you guys (Giles, Alec, Dave, Gulley) or is it just one person posting as different people? You seem to have a vendetta against Albert for some reason. If you don't like what he writes then the obvious thing to do is to avoid reading his posts. I think you are the one/s who detract from this forum with your caustic and unfair comments. This is not the LUG.

-- sam smith (Ruy_Lopez@hotmail.com), November 17, 2001.

Sam, I don't think anyone has a "vendetta" against Alfie. It's just that some folks find his numerous &, shall we say, overenthusiastic postings to be a bit annoying. However, he's not hurting anyone &, IMO, has as much of a right as anyone to post away.

-- Chris Chen (furcafe@NOSPAMcris.com), November 17, 2001.

Look, this fellow obviously lacks some judgment ... it's not something to excoriate him for. But I think it's reasonable for us to ask him to think a little before posting because his posts are rather annoying: they're misinformed or plain useless at times.

-- Henry Linton (HULinton@yahoo.com), November 17, 2001.

Which is worse- an enthusiast who shares his enthusiasm with others on a forum- NOT a mailing list- or those who take the time to dis him for it?

Jeez- lighten up- if you don't like what Alfie writes, then don't read it!

-- Thought Police (tsesung@yahoo.com), November 17, 2001.

Of all the people who post here, this guy is the only one that annoys me ... It's not a big annoyance, but heck, I check this list religiously to read the usually interesting posts and seldom do I look at the by-lines in my excitement to see the new thread. I really don't think it's too much to ask that he try to think just a little before he posts his inane reflections or jokes. And often-times his remarks are of the form "I have this, this and that! And I shoot, I'm getting married, blah blah blah ..." Who cares?

-- Henry L. (hulinton@yahoo.com), November 17, 2001.

I picked up a Leitz model "A" with f/3.5 50mm collapsible Elmar, s/n 50499. It's the model right before they had detachable lenses. I too was quite surprised at how compact it really is, even with the little tube-style viewfinder. I've shot some Tri-X with it with some pretty decent results, although, invariably, you get sproket holes within the image frame due to the film not feeding perfectly straight. The images are a bit soft, but still quite good. I'll shoot some color film through it sometime and report back here to this thread any interesting results!

:-O

-- Tony Rowlett (rowlett@mail.com), November 17, 2001.

I really don't think my (or others)comments were that caustic or unfair. As the response by others has shown I am not alone in my opinion. Is this really the place to share your life story, honeymoon arrangements, guest list, choice of desserts, future plans, inside leg...

-- Giles Poilu (giles@monpoilu.icom43.net), November 18, 2001.

I sometimes enyoy reading Alfie's post.

Alfie, as Ray suggested, buy whatever you could afford before getting married - after then, you will have more to consider apart from your camera gears such as family savings, children's education cost...etc.

-- tom tong (tom.tong@ckh.com.hk), November 18, 2001.

Alfie seems to be a really nice guy and apparently much nicer than me so he does not deserve to be flamed like this in a forum full of civilized people. The Canon list I can understand! Unfortunately there are good points and bad points about the internet. It is very easy to hit that send button and hard to retract what you just send. I am sure if we are all sitting around a table in a pub looking at each other then courtesy would not be a problem.

-- ray tai (razerx@netvigator.com), November 19, 2001.

Hi Alfie,
You seem to cause quite a stir:-)
Have you thought about making a personal homepage (maybe you already have one)? This particular type of posting would be ideal for a personal (but public) web diary. You would probably avoid getting most of these possibly hurtful comments if you restrict your contributions here to actual questions and answers.
If you end your regular forum submissions with a link to your diary, I bet many would check out how you are doing (I would).
Cheers,
Niels

Oops! Maybe you'll have to learn how to make correct html like me:-)
I hope this link works.

-- Niels H. S. Nielsen (nhsn@ruc.dk), November 19, 2001.

I can't believe some of you guys. Look, if you have too much hate energy to spare, how about directing it at the person who's resposible for thousands of innocent lives and still at large in Afghanistan? Quit picking on Alfie and let's get back to talking Leica, with a smile.
