Legal question re: posting "private" email

Just a harmless question. If I wanted to post an email from a buddy without his permission, one that may not exactly "cast him in a favorable light" (as in make him look like a horses backside), are there legal ramifications? (It's not what you think.)

I asked a similar question of a good lawyer friend. (Good lawyer and good friend, lol.) He replied it's like personal mail. Once that mail is sent to you, it becomes your property. (Poster assumes no loability for any damages that might result from this informaation, so there, don't even think of litigation.)

There are some exceptions, depending on what's in the mail. Of course, if there are confidences and a request not to reveal them, then bugger whether it's legal or not, it's not nice.

No liability, either.
