Which one 24-85 or 28-105?

I am looking at buying an elan7e i am going to buy either 24-85 or the 28-105. I already have a 75-300 from an old camera. Which one should i buy i am intrested in the build quailty as well as the optics,has anyone had problems with either lens?

Since you already have a 75-300, it would seem to be sensible to get the 24-85. I have this lens, and it is very good. My father has the 28-105, and it too is very good. All it really depends on is whether you need the extra on the long or short end.

The build and optical quality are about the same for both of them. Somewhat better than the 75-300. They both use a ring type USM for focusing that is fast and allows Full Time Manual focusing, and the filter ring doesn't rotate. Those are all improvements over what you have. I agree with Isaac, the 24-85 is probably a better match for the 75-300.

Except the 24-85 uses 67mm filters, and the 28-105 uses 58mm filters, which I believe is the same as the 75-300. Just 1 more thing to consider. Jim
