Fulham match day thread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

OK...know I'm a bit previous...but it's Saturday on the other side of the world...and there's a bit of a spark about this match.

May well be wrong...but it could be 3-2 / 2-3 or...0-0?

Away the lads to...Parson's Green...

-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001

Flippin' 'eck Benton. I'm still trying to work out how to get there! Car to Hendon, train to Kings X then a few tubes I guess.

-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001

A few tubes of toothpaste screacha? My one and only contribution to this thread.I think it'll be a lovely game with bags of effort from both sides, with those great lads from Newcastle coming out on top.

-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001

Damp, drizzly morning in Lahndhan...set for a cracker of a match.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I've just popped into work before I set off for the match....Come on THE TOON!

4 years of hurt and all that, i'm getting bored with not winning in london, it's time for the lads to suprise me!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Curiously, I'm not really optimistic about this one. I'd settle for a 2-2 right now.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I'd be happy with a point as well, too much high expectancy for my liking.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Well said we would get thumped by Villa and the Toffeemen (twas I that said we would beat Spurs 5-2, so have since decided against that philosophy!!) so on that premise Fulham to win 3-1

And Bud if you are reading this cannot contct you on yr mobile am now off to the East End Brewery Causeway Bay to watch the Pool if youre around???

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

A point would do me, too, although it's one of those b*stard fixtures that we SHOULD win so we'll be furious at 5 O clock.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

A point would do me fine, although of course it would be nice to win in London finally.

Someone on here (can't remember who) compared the team that last won in London to our current side and honestly there is a vast difference.

Tomasson and Ketsbaia up front that day, now we have Shearer and Bellamy, with Solano and Robert to provide dual threats down the wings. It must be psychological, as the team is good enough.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Hmm. The way I've figured it: the London Hoodoo is worth a goal start to the opposition plus goals from Saha, Goma and Clarky. So, we need to score 5. Not impossible: 2 from Bellamy, one from Shearer and one apiece from Solano and Robert. Bout time Gary Goalscoring Midfielder Speed scored, too. Hmm, I think I'd be delighted with a point, all-in- all.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

now, now - all this positive talk of a point is getting me optimistic.

We'll lose. Does anyone SERIOUSLY expect otherwise?

;-(

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Referee is Eddie Wolvesathome. Total cack. Never gives owt to the away team.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

So, what is everyone's preferred method of monitoring the match when they aren't at the game? Radio, Internet, Ceefax? All of them are torture, of course, but what do you prefer?

BTW, have we stopped doing beambacks?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

It has been all freezing cold, howling winds and pissing rain here in sunny Barcelona this week. Yesterday, there was a mini-tornado just offshore. I've got a stinking cold and have been stuck indoors all week. Beside me is a box of Cohiba cigars that I am unable to smoke because of said cold.

And we are playing in London.

Forgive me if I'm not my usual chipper voice of optimism today. I would be DELIGHTED with a point...

(Sorry for moaning - I'll have a hot toddy in a bit and will be feeling on top of the world by half-time no doubt :) )

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Cheer up, Pet, you could support Barcelona ;0)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yeah, at least I use my white hankies for blowing my nose on, not trying to get the manager sacked...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

dougal...radio / webcast / bbs / Sky Sports Soccer Saturday / ITV2's The Goal Rush / Ceefax - all at the same time.

Suppose a point and a good match would keep most happy. But three points would be so sweet.

Adrian Chiles on 5 Live trailed an interview with some Newcastle fans in a Putney pub this morning re the four years of hurt. Had to go out. Anyone hear it?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Radio, Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, that's about it, stupid Sky Text takes ages to get into latest scores.

My prediction is now that the match will be abandoned after Fulham's "illegal" terrace falls down mid game.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Steve, weather report from downunder very pleasant max of 27 this arvo trip down the beach with compulsory swim followed by duex bottles of vino and a beeer intro to support the lads for their long lost Larnden win !

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

LOL. You can picture the headlines now:; "Fat Geordies force closure of terraces as their collective weight makes the away end fall down."

Toon, Toon, Black and White Army!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want a beer while I'm up?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Anyone got confirmation of the team yet?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

hewp that seymour fella (lt) an Breda are tooned in and TM & Mrs TM are with the Gus contingent in WA !!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Team not on Sky yet. So, Alyson Rudd, Harry Redknapp, Bloomberg and Lawrenson think we'll get tonked....

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

"So, Alyson Rudd, Harry Redknapp, Bloomberg and Lawrenson think we'll get tonked.... "

Rudd, that dominant force in sports publishing Redknapp, that bloke who has a son that looks nothing like him Bloomeberg, erm Lawrenson. Lawrenson! Has he not been shot yet?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

What great formatting that last post had :)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Century say that the back four is Hughes, O'Brien, Dabs and Elliott with no changes elsewhere either. I didn't catch Given or Harper.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

It's a team that's certainly capable of beating Fulham

Whether it will or not is another question though...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

It is:

Given

Hughes O'B Dabs Elliott

Solano, Lee, Speed, Robert

Shearer Bellamy

Acuna, Harper, Lua Lua, Ameobi and Distin on the bench

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Bobby's got the right idea, you don't tinker with a team that beat the league leaders.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Howay lads and lasses! Here's hoping we....don't get resoundingly tonked today. A point will do me fine. :-)

Will attempt to listen to the webcast, but in anticipation of computer meltdown when concert tickets going on-sale in less than 20min, I may not see you all until half-time. Keep the updates coming, I'll look forward to reading them later!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Bellamy on Metro, starts his interview with, "Yeah, obviously, you know...."

Is he on commission to fit as many footballer's cliches into one sentence?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Paul I dunno whether you saw my posting about today's papers but apparently we have played fewer players than anyone other PL side: that has to be helping us. In Gullit's season, only one side had played as many players as us: Notts Forest who got relegated in about January.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

LOL, Paul. I see Given was at his speciality the other day: fitting "y'know" into a sentence 2345 times.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yeah, I saw your post Dougal.

It can only be a good thing, Blackburn, in their title winning season played 18 in the whole season I think.

Less players also means a settled team, players gettin used to other players' strengths and weaknesses, it can only be a good thing.

Hopefully Dyer and Cort coming back won't mess up the team.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

ITV2 live pics from Craven Cottage before KO - young Fulham fan sipping a carton of orange and munching on a choccy biscuit, then camera switches to a young Toon fan...picking his nose. Magic. ITV2 buzz word for this fixture: "Attractive."

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

The moral of the story is that the Fulham fans of the future will be fat and bloated, whilst ours will have clean nasal passages.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Come on Fulham......................................

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Sky Sports are spending ages on the Spurs - Arsenal game, at least 5 minutes of shots of the empty pitch and directors of the clubs etc.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

SK, how come you want Lee Clark's team to do well?

Surely the mere mention of his name makes the veins on your head stick out?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Not really. His abuse was at makcems.I am from Gateshead. Therefore I feel nowt about it.The lad did a good job for our club though.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yeah...Spurs v Arsenal is of no interest to anyone outside north London, yet - predictably - it's the main commentary match on 5Live, every radio station north of Kabul...plus the top game on The Premiership tonight.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

If you can avoid being in Eldon Square this afternoon, then do so. How many weeks until Xmas? It's only going to get worse. Consumers up here do not lack confidence.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Oh f...k. Who woke up SuperKev - He was here for the bleeding Wham game, too.

No offence, like, Kev, but you're not exactly a mascot.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

There was a thing on the news about North Eastern people and Christmas.

Apparently, we are the poorest area yet spend the most at Christmas, therefore they came to the conclusion that Geordies are the most generous.

Whether they also mean the football team's defence is generous is another thing.

Just noticed that the U17 and U19 teams both lost. 2-1 to Leeds for the U17's and 1-0 for the U19's

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

And we're off...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Dont worry Dougal I am going to the pub as soon as I can be bothered.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Afternoon all!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Could this be your 1st saturday defeat this season??

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Who knows?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Chris Kamara has just said that Saha looks like a pint of Guiness as he has white hair.Inverted racism?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Hello peeps! Are we going to break the London jinx today then? We`ve got the team to do it! HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!(:O)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I thought the same, I don't really think it's racist, more politically incorrect

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Webcast is loud and clear. What's going on? Have they done something to it?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Elliott booked

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Afternoon all. Well I'm braving the webcast for only the third time this season. Whether I will last the full 90 mins is debatable.

Howay Lads!!!!!!!!!! If we're going to do anything this season we have to start with this London thing!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Solano cross, Speed heads wide

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

SuperKev, I think sometimes our squeamishness about anything that might be interpreted as racist offends black people more than an off the cuff remark like that...it's as though we are accusing them of lacking a sense of humour.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Hertha Berlin are beating Wolfsburg, lads and lasses.

I've got the Boro game on as I can't stand the stress of the Toon on the radio. Boro are possing Villa.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Shearer heads just over.

Come on man, we seem to be getting a lot of freedom on the flanks.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

GAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! Unf....gbearable.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Paul how are you getting this quicker than me! You post and then it happens 3 minutes later!!! Are you psychic, if so, post Shearer now on his third...........

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Toon Army are in good voice, shame it's that awful heyyyyyy Alan Shearer! song

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I'm listening on Metro, maybe the webcast is three minutes behind.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I know, Paul: it's the most cringeworthy song I can remember.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yeah...there's always a delay on the webcast. Jackie Milburn's just got the winner...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Van Der Sar saves Bellamy's effort.

Hopefully he will learn to shoot eventually

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

FECK!

Saha's put in a cracker, Given no chance

Damn

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Saha scores - bugger

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Oh bloody hell I can't stand this. Howay man Craig, you should have scored! Whoops Saha has...............

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

We seem to be getting a lot of chances. We need to put these away, however, as I seem to recall our getting a chance or two at the beginning of the West Ham game.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

BOLLOX!

Did anyone else have the feeling Saha would come back to haunt us today?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

So much for Rob Lee's defensive influence.

I suppose he's due a bad game after playing so well against Villa.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Chris Kamara described the "blonde bombshell's" shot as "unstoppable."

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Bleurgh... NURSE! The Prozac, please. Whiskey chaser.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

So we have a go and then they get straight down the end and score. Typical. Oh god I hope this isn't just another dead loss in London. It's so bloody tedious and crap.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

this London tingum is starting to piss me off

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

1-0 to Manure

Agree about West Ham, we did well at the start, they scored then we fell apart.

London jinx?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

F.....k. I knew the little tw*t would score. Why do twockers who NEVER score always score against us? What happened for Saha's goal anyway?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

We need to keep our shape and not to panic. They aren't the best defensively. Unfortunately this London thing is getting to them psychologically, well it's getting to me anyway.

Melville. Pah I forgot he was there.

i might have to go and mop the kitchen floor, it might be preferable than this....

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Outside of the box, left foot into the corner I think, must have been on the break after our attack. Can't really confirm that as the Metro commentator doesn't exactly tell it as it is. Trying to put too many long words into his commentary.

Shearer can't keep up with the pace at the moment.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I may stay here a bit longer if you don't mind!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I need a drink. A strong one. Laced with about a pound of Prozac. Anyone else?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

We are a fantastic team 1-0 up, very few will beat us after we go 1-0 up.

1-0 down however, makes it a different story completely.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Mines a pint.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Quite. However, remember Boro away and the Makems at home. Keep the faith.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

And a bag of those chilli nuts while you're up :)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yes please Dougal. Make mine a treble.

I thought to myself this morning that if the Toon managed to win today then I would start to believe in them again but it looks like I won't have to take that risk now.......

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Oh hell 2-0

Legwinski

We are getting whipped

Two good goals, but I'm p*$$ed off at this

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Feck, Feck, Feck!!!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Why do they have to hit full top form when they play us?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

2-0 oh dear me

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

F***ing hell!!!!!!! Here we go again. This is pathetic. What other team goes to London and consistently gets beat time after time.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Going to change my trousers, might be a lucky charm

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Bugger. That's the Harrods gold card sent back in the post.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Well I might go and wash the floor now. We could be in for a drubbing.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Lynda

Could you get me a whisky chaser whilst you are out there

Ta vm nerves getting to me again

Derek

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

"Could it be that it was all so simple then?"

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Very shaky stuff

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Derek I'll get you a whiskey chaser and anyone else who needs one.

Who can BR put on to change the game? Fulham attacking again, god we're getting roasted here. Why? Fulham playing brilliant or us playing badly. Defence sounds sh8te! We go to pieces when the oppo score.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Is it time for the Fulham keeper to be sent off?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Three nil at West Ham starting to look like a let off

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I'm going to posthumously sue my Grandad for getting me into all this. Surely there is something in the EU Charter of Human Rights? Possibly under cruel and unusual punishment. Dougal, legal advice?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I think we are getting hoisted by our own petard - they seem to be counter-attacking tremendously well. This could end up 5-0. Come back when you beat Leeds, eh, Kev.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Very nearly three...Given to thank. Looks like the boys need half- time to arrive fast.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Fulham are apparently playing better than any other team we've played this season.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Hughes clears off the line

We need to try long balls

It's the only hope

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Would Brett Emerton make a difference?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

inability of our wide men to get involved when things get tough

brilliant when things are good

liabilities when we go down

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Jesus, H Christ. (Sorry for the blasphemy). WHAT is wrong with us? Is there any indication of what is going wrong in defence?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

SK, if it takes the 'keeper being sent off then so be it.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I should hope so if he is worth 15million

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Beat Leeds Dougal........you have got to be bloody joking.

Since we beat them to actually WIN a trophy they have caned us.

A proper bogey team,not like a Southampton.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Paul, when we try a longball game, we are awful (see Liverpool at home). It would be nice if, after two weeks off, Robert could make himself felt.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Southampton aren't a bogey team, they just used to own a bogey stadium.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Not balming the back 4

If Soalno and Robert are not going forwardthen effectively we play with 9 men

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Right me bath is full ,see you all .

Do not get too upset if Fulham go further ahead.

It could be worse, you could have Dichio to look forward to tomorrow!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Complete bunch of hairy arse. Gutless f**kers are always delighted to use the "hoo-doo" as an excuse. Hardly getting a touch.

How many times will the new bloke on Metro need prompting that the Fulham keeper's forename is not Van? He keeps calling him Der Sar. Muppet.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

If we don't paly long balls then it relies on the centre midfielders to play well, and that seems as likely as Bin Laden being captured in the next decade.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Dougal, INHO, Robert hasn't been that good since September. He drifts out of the game too much - too inconsistent.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

It sounds as though Speed, Lee and Shearer are having particular mares. Is this true from other commentaries?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

The thing is, he is a recognised danger man. If the other team don't mark him then he'll cause problems, so it opens up other chances in theory.

In theory as well we have a better team than Fulham as well :(

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

We need a goal before halftime or very early in the 2. half

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

We can forget Europe now. We will lose our other London fixtures and will finish about 9th (if we are lucky). #

THIS IS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Spot on Dougal, the Blue Chip are more like the Blue Sh*t

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

On paper we have a great team. Unfortunatley football isn't played on paper....

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Saying that, Bellamy and Robert are just as bad

Solano has played a bit, but still not good enough

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

"Daring to hope is an over-rated activity". Discuss.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I think Robert has given up on the World Cup and is cruising a bit at the moment. Having said that, Screach et all will be better placed to discuss this..

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

The break and holiday after the Villa win don't seem to have had the desired 'battery re-charging' effect. It sounds like they are playing like most of us work on the first Monday back after OUR holidays i.e. reluctantly and at best half-arsed.

Surely a few days off then a good week of solid practice would have been better. Team-building? It sounds like this lot have never played together before in their lives...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I think we can still make Europe. 6th place is still very possible - we have only played a quarter of the season and all teams have offdays. Unfortunately ours always seem to be in London

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Praise always goes to their heads, too. B*stards.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Why can't Sky show only our London games then we kill two birds with one stone - and possibly break both "jinxes" in one game

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Saha looks like a right ponce with his hair

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

No consolation but just been flitting between Highbury/Old Trafford/BBS Thread and Old Trafford is silent as the proverbial tomb.

Lets get behind the lads for the second half. Mind you Fulham arent a bad team in all fairness

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Fulham aren't a bad team, but we're not bad either surely?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I suppose Charlton beat Arsenal, glad we never get beaten by Charlton at home...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

My round I believe! As we don`t appear to be going to improve out record in London with this match, I suggest large ones all round.(:o|

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Izzet's missed a penalty at Manure

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I'll have two large ones please :)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Roz if I could have a large malt, have just donned me away shirt given to me by a Hong Kong colleague so could be a lucky omen .

(Why do I cling on to these sad straws?/)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I put on my lucky pants (trousers) before and we haven't let a goal in since.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

F...k me: they were awarded a penalty at OT?

This match is retrievable and I hope that YBR is giving them a right rocket. According to Century, we bossed the first 20, got caugh out by a sucker punch and collapsed. Unacceptable.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Of course there is still time.

But knowing BR, he will bring on a triple substitution on 79 minutes and we'll score a consolation after 87 minutes and it will all be in vain.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

This is stress I did not need on top of battling Ticketb*st@rd! Any more of those Prozac laced Guinness' Dougal? I'll have one, or a dozen.

Is a draw too much to ask for? Really?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Surely Bobby should try some changes NOW? We've lost the game. Bring on Lua Lua and Ameobi and see if they can pull back at least a consolation goal.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Put Lua Lua on? His mad running might cause some upset in their defence. If Al isn't doing it then take him off but of course this won't happen will it?

Robert owes us a good game as he has been missing in a few recently.

What annoys me most about this is that we could have written the script.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Just had a text from Screacher; He says "Defence - what f....g defence. Elliott should be shot. Slowly".

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Let`s hope it does the trick Derek! (:o) Come on Bobby, do something to save the day, or at least save face.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Subs at h-t don't usually work, the game needs to be in progress for them to affect the pace etc. I haven't seen Elliot play well this season - not the same Robbie that we sold t Bolton. We should definitely be on the lookout for a good lb.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Agree Lynda, we could have all written the script.

I wrote the script exactly before the Spurs match and it sadly all came true.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Lynda, you're right: we could have written this script with our eyes closed, while blind drunk and being massaged by Masai warriors.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Kegsy, Bobby keeps praising Bernard but just won't play him (although he isn't eligible today). We could try Distin, put O'B at right back and Hughes at lb...we might be a bit more solid today.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

No subs ? Anyone know the other scores? I haven't looked.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

You'd have to be blind drunk to want to be massaged by Masai Warriors

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Dangerous free kick?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

We need to sort something. But is Bernard a left back or a left midfielder or a left wing bck. He came on for RObert against Villa at left midfiled....

I would be happy to see him get his chance at somewhere as he gets pretty good reviews on here.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Lynda, Man U are 1 up, Derby are 1 up and everything else is still 0- 0.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

According to Robert, Bernard considers himself a left back, but who knows?

You know what's depressing? We can't even blame Warren Barton.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Given saves well from Saha.

That free kick before came to nowt as usual.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

first time Warren has been in the squad since Liverpool!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

If he is a left back - give him a run in the team as he deserves it. Elliott doesn't....

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Nice to see we've come steaming out in the second half, inspired, fired-up and ready to tear them a new arse.

Well done lads...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

felt Bernard was gping to be given ago - but some feeling he lacks a bit defensively with robert in front of him

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

bugger... what a day. Installed my new loo and the cistern leaks!!! and now this!... aarrgghhhh

howay lads ... make my day

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Further message from our man at Craven Cottage. Says our wingers are bad, Elliott is worse but that Shearer is actually OK.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

after effects of our Spanish sourjon?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Saha is all over the place isn't he? Have we done anything in this half? Have we kept the ball for any significant period of time? No I thought not.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Robert booked for dissent, stupid frog

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

heads go down too quickly imo

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

This is going to be our first Saturday non-win, and the first time that arse on teletext has predicted the right result for us this season.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

The game is gone now. There is nothing to suggest we'll get back into it even to threaten their goal. So NUFC.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

how can we go from one extreme to the other for so long without getting our act together

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Halfway through a piece of commentary, the Metro idiot starts telling us about how "British Gas are the big power in the North East" or something similar

O'Brien booked, we are going to get hit by suspensions if this carries on, we must have at least double the amount of bookings we had at the same stage last season.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Has Bellamy actually done anything yet? Howay man, Craig, it takes more than a good run to turn you into an icon.

BTW, what would be saying if Wozza was playing as badly as Elliott. To my recollection, he has played OK once - against Villa. Hate to say it, but is really a PL player?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

its not like we are getting beat 1-0 away in London

Its a severe tonking each time - and utter spineless shite performances

it now hAS to be giving our opponents a lift

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Given, the least 'rested' NUFC player of the last 2 weeks seems to be the best man in the side.

Coincidence?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

As I'm not listening (didn't want to depress myself) have we done ANYTHING in this game or has it been all crap?

And should I open that 2nd bottle of wine now (ran out of beer earlier)!

BTW this is entirely the fault of the person who said we'd be top if we win.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

If we stop getting booked, we might at least get into Europe through the Fair Play League thingy.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I live in fear of breaks in the season, they never seem to do us any good and this time it broke up a run of sorts, on the back of a great win v VIlla.

You're right though, this London thing is pathetic and it serves to give advantage to the home team.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

LOL, Kegsy! See what table talk prior to the final whistle of a match does! ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

HOWAY!!!! I've fixed the cistern (hopefully) so there's no reason we can't fix this damn footy match

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

NUFC.com said we'd go top if we won.

Blame them

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

You would think there would be a spell in the game when we would at least get at em

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Dougal, Elliot hasn't been the same since he broke his leg, I would actually play Quinn ahaead of him at the moment. Afterall Quinn has never played for us with a left midfileder in front of him.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yeah, remember how much good those breaks did us last year when we were knocked out of the Cup. The scores appear to be the same as they were all over the PL.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

But Paul - they didn't say it on here!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Next time we're due to play in London, the players should be blindfolded and told they're going somewhere else. The blindfolds should only be removed as they exit the tunnel and head for the pitch or bench.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Kegsy, he played in the Brentford game with Lolo in front of him and looked terrifyingly bad. In fact, at one point, he looked like he wanted to cry because he just knew he wasn't good enough.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

SPEED!!!!!

COME ON!!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Yes...Speed...let's get a second!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

SPEEEEEEEED!!!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Who said Speed was due a goal?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Cue a post-match 'I didn't think we played too badly. xxx had a great game etc.' speech from Bobby?

I don't agree with washing dirty laundry in public and I'd love to think that privately he will give them the bollocking of their overpriviledged little lives but... somehow I doubt it.

Dougal is right, if we went down battling every time in London it wouldn't be so bad, but these abject surrenders EVERY TIME point to serious problems.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Get INNNNNNNNNNn!!!!!! Gary Speed! (:o)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Now fer crying out loud, lads, FIGHT!!! We CAN get one more goal, we CAN get a draw!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

telt ya!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Lee Clark is coming on now

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

KJSDHKJERHFWUIFRYEYUREUUUUU!!"""£££%%^^^^**(()!!!!! Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedo!!!!

See those lovely lads battling to get us a point. How dare anyone criticise them? ;0)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Speed is good,
Speed is good
Gary Speed is good

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Don`t you go and spring a leak now Geordie! (;o)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Dougal I hadn't realiesed that and if he isn't good enough against Brentford....

We do need a PL left back though

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Just posted the above when we go and score...

Come on lads SHOW SOME GUTS!

SHOW SOME PRIDE!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I may go and christen the thing now... this Hen's Tooth is going right through me. ... right, back in a mo

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Rob Lee booked now

This is getting stupid

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I'm thinking about getting a new mobile phone - any suggestions?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Hayles scores with a header

Shit

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

REcommence criticism. Useless t@ssers! :-/

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

3-1 "No challenge from a Newcastle player."

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

time to bring on Lua Lua and Ameobi - take off Elliot and Solano and attack attack attck

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Shearer booked.

Please stop it referee

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Please don tell me it was a set piece Hayles is a bloody donkey for Christs sake

We were in with a real shout of snatching a point

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Who the f**k is Alan Shearer?

Those Fulham "fans" have got a cheek haven't they

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Shearer booked now. Are we that stupid or does this referee not realize it's ok to card the home team too.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Well at least none of you lot work with a Fulham fan. I am so not looking forward to Monday

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Bloody idiots: why can't we concentrate after scoring? The game was basically in our hands there.

Kegsy, to be fair, against Brentford, a number of players were poor but Quinn just didn't have the game to play with Robert: too slow in movement and mind.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Is the ref getting paid in Harrods vouchers, or what?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Too late for subs

It always is

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I cannot get my head around leaving a centre forward unmarked

Unnacceptable and far too frequent an occurence form our plant pots

2-1 down away from home and back in the game

They should be chasing and throwing themselves at everything

For gods sake lads

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Distin for Dabizas????????????

Yeah, really good tactical switch there ???

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

How many bookings against Chelsea? Surely this is getting even worse than that game?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Obviously Bobby has given thae game up (unless Dabs is injured) and wants Distin to get a bit of experience in the PL. Can he play lb?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Is Dabs injured? BTW, Dabs played for Greece twice so he may be tired. Got beaten 2-1 by Cyprus, too.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Anyone else think we should have kept Stuart Pearce, pickled him or something, and retrieved him from his jar to bring on in games like this?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

2-0 to Manure

Saha goes close again

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Simply should not have needed a tactical change

Conceding to an unmarked donkey away when back in the game is shocking and the persons responsible for picking him up should stand up and apologise

Tosser

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Nob (by) off.

Lua on

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Actually, Kegs, Distin IS left-footed so he might be worth a try...

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, BOBBY DO SOMETHING.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Me !!! Big Pycho fan!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

We've got a penalty now.

Robert dived by the sound of it

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Shearer's going to miss

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Oh feck I was right

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I agree that it isn't just the defeat that riles but the manner of the surrender. To get one back and then concede another 5 mins after is a disgrace!!!!!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Cmon Big Al.....

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Just that sort of day, isn't it? Robert should probably take it.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

of course it was a penalty

but so what

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Pires just scored a cracker for Arsenal

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

@!#$$#%%$^%*&(#$%TGERQ#$@#@!#@#@#$!!!!! I don't believe it.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Shearer wants shooting, missed the rebound from 6 yards

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Well that makes it easier to decide how Cort gets back in the side. 14 headers over the bar and a missed pen. Bollocks.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Are you sure, Ciara?

It may be hysteria, but I'm starting to laugh now: ONLY THE TOON.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

What in the world do we have to do to win a match in London?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

When's Cort back?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

umm.... loo christened.... I don't think I'll use it on a match day again ;-(

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Why did I just know Shearer wasn't going to score.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Cort is insisting on playing in some reserves games first..

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

So true, Dougal. If we don't laugh we'll only top ourselves. :-)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Perhaps we should become the Harlem Globetrotters of the Premiership. ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Is he close to fitness? And does he know how cold it is in the reserves?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Dyer back in two

Cort in three

appparently

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Good for Carl Cort. Maybe Shearer should be there for a while as well till he gets his form back...

Bellamy has been totally anonymous today. I haven't heard anything from him since the first 20 mins. Demotivated due to club's handling of events last week? He IS young and over-emotional after all...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

what, weeks? Months? Nights on the piss?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I have zero faith in Cort

unfortunately

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Steve, he's been showing off about how brilliant he is playing all week. A fall was imminent.

This is utter cack. Why, when we are in a great position in the league and in a game, do we bottle it? All I can say is, I'm glad we are half way to safety.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Pete, I've never seen Cort score a goal like he meant it but he does have a great strike rate for us...

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Despite being second best we had two real chances to get back in the game and we blew it

shite

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

This weekend last year, we got beaten at home by the Makems and Al missed a pen. I suppose that was worse (marginally).

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

so did l'apostrophe....

Cort's return doesn't thrill me. We need a world class player up front to be challengers and we don;t.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

A streaker to finish off the circus

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I just feel hes going to be the second lanky striker that we have had who is ALWAYS crocked

Cort has had three injuries and it will be February before he is fully fit

IF he doesnt get injured again

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

At least Spurs are getting beaten.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Beaten on tactics, beaten on ability, beaten on will to win.

One to forget, lads and lasses.

Never say die - unlike the team.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

poyet's just equalised for Spurs with a peach. Richard Wright for England??? hmmm think not

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Ah Bollox.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

No there not

its 1-1

They can show some spirit and fight

and stay out the bloody newspapers in a two week lay off

Sorry but all that negative shite cannot have helped

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Well what a horrible match, and how horribly predictable. (:O|

See ya boys and girls!

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

I feel like I owe you all an apology. I've been here for over 2 and a half years, after 4 years of living in London and not missing a game. See us win at Spurs, Arsenal, QPR, West Ham and Crystal Palace. Don't think we've even come close since I came to Australia. Anyone want to chip in for my plane ticket home?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Come on man, Cort is a good striker.

My uncle has been watching the Toon for 45 years and he reckons Cort is a great player.

He's big, pretty strong and gets into the right positions. He'd certainly be a better partner than Shearer in games like this.

Full time now, give that team a big slap.

Bollocks, big hairy bollocks.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Two comments on here sum up today

but will Bobby or any of our lot stand up and say it

Not a bloody chance

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Thank god that's over. Think I'll go shopping.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

At least I'm too ill to go to the pub tonight. I've got a £20 bet on with the landlord at 16-1 for a top 6 toon finish. I won't have to listen to him crowing 'Ha Ha! Moi muney's safe!' in his ******* Dublin accent.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Right, I'm really annoyed now, I'm off to drink the fridge away. Bye all.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Well that makes me sort of glad my Fulham associate wouldn't let me use her season ticket to buy one for this game through ticketmaster.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Not suggesting Cort is bad - but his injury record since he arrived is dreadful

Unlucky - of course, but there is a thought that players are never the same after major surgery and Cort has had two major layoffs in a year

There is nothing more I would like than seeing a fit Cort, but I am not holding my breath

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Great. Shearer's missed pen sums it up. Wouldn't be so bad if we'd showed any kind of fight but the performance was utter rubbish.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Well it would have been 2-3 if Shearer hadn't missed the pen. (See top of thread). Let's hope they take it out on Derby next Saturday, Ipswich in the Worthless Cup, followed by a guaranteed three points away to Charlton. That's nowhere near London, is it?

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

Saturday night ruined as usual. Annoyingly Spurs get a late point. I see them as rivals to us in the Euro challenge but if we play like we did today we can forget that.

-- Anonymous, November 17, 2001

My Fulham colleague (I won't call him a mate) has just called to rub it in. As if I would have called him if it had been the opposite way round....
