Hi folks

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

After watching the fleecing of a forum, I was wondering if I would be welcome to post here?

Answers

Glad to see ya, Kip, we need that northwest perspective...

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Brooks thanks for the welcome. I will be posting Northwest news and leave the international stuff up to you pros. :)

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Why should we be the only ones posting misinformation? ;^)

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Kip,

Hi! Grab a comfy chair, and get your fingers warmed up!

Welcome aboard.

Brooks, as long as I stick to what I know I may not get in too much trouble. :) Thanks apoc

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Kip,

Baaaaaa and what exactly did you mean by fleecing of a forum?

apoc

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

I assumed Kip was referring to the recent testiness at TB. We don't know how to be testy here, Carl and Barefoot see to that.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

apoc I would rather not go into that. I am still really pissed about it.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Someone post a link for Apoc. I don't want to summarize it, either. (Argh!)

Welcome, Kip. The pace is a lot slower on this forum as compared to TB2K, but important breaking stories always turn up in a timely manner, thanks to the dilligent efforts of the news hounds.

Here, Apoc.

meemur,

Thanks for the link. I kinda thought that was the one.

My mom always taught me, that if I can't say something nice about someone, I should keep my mouth shut. Most of the times I do, and I did on this one.

Kip,

Hopefully you weren't pissed about people expressing their honest concerns about that problem.

Anyway, that is neither here but there. Eat, drink, and be merry... oh and don't forget to type your fingers off.

hope you cot some time on your hands. :0)

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Apoc I think the people disenting were in the right.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Meemur, nice to see you.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Kip, here we mostly stick to posting news stories and seeing if we can gross Git out. That's difficult, cuz she tends to lurk 25/7.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Hopefully this will be my last thought on this subject. I'll try, but don't shoot me if I slack.

It would be interesting to see how much she posts after having gotten the cash. Somehow, I wonder if she'll just fade off into the wilds.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Somehow, I wonder if she'll just fade off into the wilds.

Well, as Coyote has said on more than one occasion, "You can't lose 'em all!" Hope springs eternal, dontcha know?

Now Kip, you gotta remember that over here on Currents we have both "BrookS" (who displays feline partisanship) and me, "BrookE" (who is very fond of cats, but currently has dogs only). :-) I don't think she's ever held that against me, though. ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

I'm actually genetically more of a dog person (unless it's midnight and subfreezing, in which case whatever it is can damn well use the litter box). I just happen to have only cats at this time.

However, Bandit is very obliging. I think she was a doggy in a former life. Huge brown eyes that blink ever so seductively as she slowly and seductively wags her tail, rolls over on her back so her tummy can be patted but really likes to be rubbed all over, right there at the door when I come home and then follows me everywhere...

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

I am so confused LOL

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

It's easy Kip, Bandit is the pudgy chocolate tiger tabby, Ginger is the gingerale tabby-with-an-attitude don't-touch-me-there-I'm-ultra- ticklish-and-I-just-sharpened-my-nails, Angel is my folks black cat who keeps his halo shiny except for those few moments each day when he reminds Bandit and Ginger that he really is the Anti-Cat.

Or wasn't that what you were confused about?? LOL

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Hey Kip - good to see you! OG's got a good group here...

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Hey, Kip, nice to see you! Not true I'm here 25/7, more like 19 or 20/7. They do exaggerate.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Hey Kip, glad you're here, too. Fleecing is right! JMHO

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Actually it was the Brook, Brooke thing that confused me. How many cat people are their on this forum. Thanks everyone for the welcome.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

I'm no cat person. Those nasty minions of the devil keep dying on me...sniffle...

Welcome Kip.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Kip,

I'm owned by six - does that count? :-D

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Helen, I have a lot of outside barnyard cats. The only thing that keeps their population in check are coyotes. They(the cats)are great. Unfortunatly I always lose a few during the winter. BTW nice to see you Helen and thanks for helping to get Lady Logic off my back.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Kip, shhhhhh, She Who Must Be Ignored mustn't be discussed on an open forum...

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Shit! Now you've done it.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

My dear Kip;

I was sadden to see that you are not over at TB. But every one must draw their own 'personal lines in the sand'. Incidently. Since we both have such simular addys...Which one of us is situated on the 'cul-de-sac?

"As foe the Game...It is Done"!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Shakey~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
How do you keep the trolls out of here?
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Shakey, I will give you the choice of bunkers. LOL It was a tough decision to leave. So far I haven't seen any religious infighting or racism here and I find that very refreshing.
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
This is a non-religion board, religion isn't discussed here so we can't get into any arguments about that one.
What's racism?
Kip, you need to make sure that Git, or someone, has your real addy in case you need to be notified about passwords if they become necessary. She'll come along with instructions shortly, I'm sure.
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Thanks Brooks.
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Howdy Kip :)
That was a baa-a-a-a-ad deal, wasn't it? I'm afraid Jesse subscribes to the practice of (what we call at work) "the ever-changing story".
I am one of the cat people--we have 4 geriatric house cats and about 20 barn cats.
I would post news about South Dakota, but nothing ever happens here (sigh).
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
BK, No news is good news. :0)
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
I second what Kip said, BK. Quiet is good. Soon, you'll be snowed in, which will keep you safe. I'm waiting for the single digit temps, here. That sort of cold combined with a bitter wind puts a damper on most mischief.
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Meemur, freezing temps also raise hell with any airborne bacteria.
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Howdy Kip! yepppp..I am the one they look the other way on, cause I say prayers for EVERYONE...and everything!
ONLY I DON"T TALK RELIGION!
Now, Cats..well....pull up a chair....while Apoc is reading..I'll jawl on you awhile...cats you say??? I got cats!!!!!!! hehehehehe
Oh, yea..and a damn A$$ bite neighbor that used one for target practice.... oh...I am supposed to be over that!!!!
in my best roseanne an danna...... NEVERMIND!!!!!
Welcome to Currents...I am one of those that can't ever get links right.... but sometimes ..by an accident...I DO get one to work!!!!
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Mistress Kip;
I am sorry that you left (I don't let them (Jesse and Patrick) bother me to much. LOL! I can cause Pat the hypocrite snarl and snap.
When they reach a position were they fail with their dialogue. Then to a person, they'll point out misspelled words etc...(I spell phonetically).
"As for the Game...It is Done"!
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Shakey, which bunker did you decide on? The one on the right or left? LOL Saro nice to see you. Sorry to hear about your cat. As the saying goes "Who needs terrorists? I got neighbors". LOL
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
((((((Shakey))))))) hugs to you...I hadn't seen you lately... corse I have not seen alot lately, but am slowly getting back to "me". I am still very tired much to quickly for me, but this is good, at least I am sleeping!
Kip, nice folks here. so have a cup of coffee and just relax!
Meemer...another nice day tomorrow... I love it, but the bottom will fall out soon. Thank Willow you gave me...STILL have some fresh green leaves, so IT LIVES!
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Kip, there are so many indoor-cat people here that noncat people don't dare say anything! Sweetie and I were down to seven but went back up to eight a couple of days before Halloween.
Zucco is doing fine, by the way, y'all, and will be getting his booster shots and Bobbitt job next week or so. He's an extremely endearing cat and looks as if he will turn out to be normal (for a cat) as opposed to psycho. Even though the HUGE cage he was in for his own protection is open now, he still sleeps in there--he loves his Polarfleece hammock, lol! I guess it's his own bit of territory--you know how they are. (I highly recommend this playpen-cage for those who might need one, from drsfostersmith.com.)
Yes, get your names on the mailing list in case we have to go to passwording or Greenspun goes down (which it does now and then). jas_donald@yahoo.com is the forum address.
We don't allow arguing here because it gets in the way of arming ourselves with info for whatever comes up that might interrupt our regular lives or inconvenience us--or worse. To illustrate:
Sweetie was laid off for three months in May. He found another job and now this company is going to downsize and lay off some folks, don't know when but soon. One of the layoffs was hired even after Sweetie and moved down here with his wife and two children, haven't even settled into their new house yet. In the time that Sweetie has been regularly employed again, I've built the stash back up and we were able to buy a new fridge when the old one went belly up.
It never was just Y2K and it isn't just the terrorists now. The stash helped us live relatively well during the last layoff and will do the same this time. We don't talk much about preps because most of us are old hands at it by now, but if any newbies have any questions, feel free to ask.
My dear mistress Kip;
LOL, if you don't want it. I'll take the bunker furtherest up the hill.
Mistress Saro, I to had a spate of ill health (like a pretty close call with the 'grim reaper'), or so I'm given to understand.
But I'm getting my legs back; ablet a bit too slowly for my impatient nature. I had a blood clot form in my left leg (from the inner thigh to my ankle). I didn't know what had happened. And for the next three days, I endured more pain than I knew exhisted LOL..When I finally 'broke down' and went to see a 'quack' on the fourth day. He had a sonic scan done on the leg! And the next thing I know. I was slung into the hospital. Where I stayed for the next 6 days.
250K units of Heprin and two pulmonary embulsioms (boy! did the nurses and doctors get excited when those happened - my chest did hurt, but not as bad as my leg did! LOL) anyway, six days later. They 'reluctantly' said I could go home. If I promiced severely to take the Coumindin tablets every day...
Now, I just have to increase my use of my legs a little bit more every day, untill they come back to full strenth. I just hope that everything will hold off (the world situation) untill I get more strenth in them; than I have now...
"As for the Game...It is Done"!
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Goodness, Shakey, a close call! Did they also tell you to watch out for certain vitamins and other supplements which enhance the effect of Coumadin? Like vitamin C? Maybe your pharmacist has a list of them. Don't want you getting your blood too thin!
P.S. (Whisper) I think Kip is a guy.
-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001
Sorry to hear about such a bad illness - wishing you a speedy and full recovery, Shakey!
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
(actually, I thought Kip was a big ass Marine type guy - nice to have around in these troubling times!!)
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
If Kip isn't a guy, she needs to shave! ;)
Anyway, Shakey sorry to hear about your troubles, especially in times like these. At least you are still in the game, and for that we are all thankful! Please follow the doctors orders.
apoc
Brooks, thats "Bad ass Marine Guy" LOL
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
Oh, yes, sorry, I can see where there would be a difference. ;^)
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
Oh, for pete's sake. I can't believe you people think I didn't know you were here since day one.
You can quit shakin' in your boots. I'm not going to spam you unless you delete me.
Now, you can go back to being password protected, or you can put up with my opinion on occasion. It doesn't seem like such a hard choice to me. ;o)
Unless a poster violates the terms of service, there will be no deletions. Here is a reminder (for future reference, there is a link to TOS on the New Question form):
1. Goal of Currents. The goal of this forum is to disseminate and discuss useful news and information in a timely, informative and polite manner.
2. Flaming. If you don't know what flaming is, look it up at a Netiquette site. Flaming is not permitted on Currents.
3. Religious Posts. The major impetus for starting Currents was the acrimony caused by heated arguments on Timebomb 2000, 98% of which centered around religion. Hence, we do not permit religious discussion posts on Currents. This is not to say that we are an anti-religion forum; certainly not. We are a non-religion forum, something quite different. There are numerous religion forums on ezboard and elsewhere and you are invited to post religious material on those boards.
4. Decision of Despots Committee is final. If a post is outside the bounds of commonly-accepted courtesy, it WILL be deleted or edited without notice.
Check back here regularly. These Terms of Service may be amended from time to time. Ignorance of TOS is no excuse.
Hi Kip, Shakey, glad to see you around... I'm not on much anymore, due to circumstances, but drop by every now and then... heads up, some of my posts are adult humor, so if my thread title looks suspicious, it probably is...
Also look for Brooks yelling "Moooooommmmm!!!"
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
Carl, I'm the youngest in my family. I got very got very good at that. And whining, I specialized in whining, too, as a kid.
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
welcome, kip!!
and yes.....it IS always good to have a big strong (BA) marine around
they come in quite handy at times
; )
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
Gitty, relax. I don't have a problem with most of your rules, I even agree with the religious one.
However, I think it is ridiclous you think you have that kind of control over what people post or think. For instance, I'd like to point out that "Kip" has already broken your rules. Jesse receiving money from TimeBombers isn't news. Are you going to set one standard for him and one for me? (By the way, I agree with him on that issue. I think people should be able to donate to her if they want, but I also think people should be able to point out that it's pretty crazy to give money to someone they've never met.)
Also, your rules state you want people to "discuss useful news". I happen to think that less than 1% of what you people post here is useful, but hey, whatever flips your trigger is all right with me if you aren't hurting anybody. Chuckle, I happen to think the only people you are hurting is yourselves and I'd like to discuss that with you later if it's all right with you.
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
Aw, come on! I've already beat on Kip enough, but you guys have to quit pandering to him! He's not a "big strong Marine". He's a sick, 50-year-old man who got out of his last tour early. MY guess is because he was "sick" clear back in 1971!
Sheesh
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
Carl and Mebs thanks for the welcome.
-- Anonymous, November 16, 2001
Now you can see why we need to password the forum. The members of the Despots Committee volunteer what little spare time they have to keep this forum running in a manner that permits quick assimilation of interesting news and useful information without having to wade through crap like you see from whoever it was above. One spiteful person spoils it for everyone.
Okay, I seem to have more than a little spare time. For you newbies who aren't aware, I do traffic monitoring for a local TV station and have to be at the computer every morning from about 7 to 9 a.m. At night I do some crime/EMS/disaster monitoring and have to be online then too. I suppose I could be doing other things, but I choose to keep up with the news elsewhere and post whatever I find that others might be particularly interested in.
I'll be damned if I'm going to waste my time getting into some pointless debate with a sociopath. Anyone who wants to do that has quite a number of other forums to choose from.
Rant off; thread closed.
