Why, that would be Kate! Can you imagine what charts will do to her ego now?

-- a random person (notstuffingatall@cheating.com), November 15, 2001.

Ricky T said Kate and Ally! I vote for Laverne and Shirley.

-- Mark C (boyincorduroy@yahoo.com), November 15, 2001.

kate wins just for trying to stuff the ballot box while linking for her own band.

-- Mr Noodles (infinitecow@yahoo.com), November 15, 2001.

I thought this was not supposed to be nasty.

-- Anonny (anonny@anon.com), November 15, 2001.

I'm not going to bother deleting stuff but yeah, it's not meant to be nasty. But this isn't a nasty category necessarily. Well, I don't think so.

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

I just meant the last comment. Shouldn't this be fun instead of super queen bee-otchy?

Geoff
Suzy

-- anthony (anthonyeaston@shaw.ca), November 15, 2001.

Ooooh, controversy! Whooooo... except you forget that I have such a massive EGO that I even take slagging off as a compliment. It's better that people say BAD THINGS about you than that they say nothing at all.

-- kate (masonicboom@yahoo.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

you bitch, just cos of that...anthony!

-- Geoff (pissingintheriver@hotmail.com), November 15, 2001.

wow, such hatred for the ladies in this and the other nomination thread..........

-- xyz (xxx@xxx.xxx), November 15, 2001.

What other thread? This one does seem female-dominated so far (but then we don't know who's voting). I suspect that i) ILE is sexist, ii) In order to get well known as a woman on ILE you need a big ego, iii) women with big egos need never worry about it because they can always blame criticism on horrible envious men. Probably a bit of all three.

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

Sheesh Tom, lots more than just three chiXoR on ILE you know. And as for the three nominated, one has expressed GLEE at nominations and the other two certainly have boasted about having big egos before. Myself, Katie, Samantha, Toraneko, Rainy, Maryann ect haven't been mentioned so I wouldn't start blaming it on gender young mang. Give it a bit more thort!

-- Sarah (starry@amazingness.com), November 15, 2001.

I was replying to xyz, young WUMMAN, cuz that certainly seemed to be the implication of hir post.

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

Tom, for organising the ILE awards!

-- Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood (thankyou@very.much), November 15, 2001.

I was just responding to this: In order to get well known as a woman on ILE you need a big ego, oops. Cos I don't think my ego is that big... BECOZ it's always being oppressed be EWING who as we all know is VS. GURLS.

FITE!

-- Sarah (starry@amazingness.com), November 15, 2001.

be = by. Heh, I just assumed everyone had heard of me. Get voting, pop pickXoRs....

-- Sarah (starry@amazingness.com), November 15, 2001.

Starry your e-mail is shagged so I must egotistically derail this thread to ask you to e-mail me using a working address please!

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

Work or home address? Usual one seems to be working, but perhaps not...

-- Sarah (starry@amazingness.com), November 15, 2001.

Work.

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

i'm just baffled by the attacks on suzy. shurely if a woman needs a big ego just to get noticed, that means that there are loads of boyz who have equivalent or larger egos which do not get noticed. a 'healthy' ego is not being distinguished here from being egotistical, and it is clear that 'large ego' is meant as an insult. and i object to your third proposition - that's not really a fair assessment of people's views. it's more likely that certain ile-ers will say behind an outspoken woman's back that she does it because she knows she can get away with it (i've heard this). when really it's just her personality. and i'd like to say that i love kate and i wish we coud read more of her again.

-- forget@it.com (xxxx@xxx.xxx), November 15, 2001.

OK I ought to clarify. I do think Suzy has a big ego. I also think I have a big ego, and I don't think it's a personality flaw neccessarily - there's no way Suzy or any of the successful people here would be able to achieve what they achieve without a high level of self-belief. This category was meant as a slightly teasing one and I'll drop it if it gets any nastier.

My third point...well, OK, I will clarify. Poster X has a big ego (or any other kind of personality trait). Poster X is also a woman. Some people find Poster X's ego/trait noticeable. They say so when the opportunity arises (here, in this case). Poster X then has two assumptions they can make - "They are annoyed because of the ego/trait" or "They are annoyed because the ego/trait is possessed by a woman". I'm just saying that the second assumption seemed to be being made. Perhaps it's right.

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

Suzy hasn't posted on this thread, and really would be the only one to justifiably answer the implicit criticism. So why are others suggesting bigotry as an ulterior motive for something which is nothing to do with them? The only people who can argue this thing through are the detractors and Suzy. To second guess Suzy's reaction is an arrogant and inherently ignorant response.

NB the above assumes for the sake of argument that a big ego is a bad thing. It's certainly not as simple as that.

-- Mark C (boyincorduroy@yahoo.com), November 15, 2001.

I don't like this thread.

-- DG (rgreenfield@btinternet.com), November 15, 2001.

If I win this I'm sending Sacheen Little Feather and Nicholas Currie to collect on my behalf and give to Native Americans, etc.

My vote is for FatNick ;).

-- suzy (theartskooldisko@hotmail.com), November 15, 2001.

Sorry, I should have inserted "Poster X or others commenting" since I have no idea whether Suzy herself has posted or not here - no idea what her response would be.

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

nomination: Momus!

-- Sterling Clover (sterling_clover@yahoo.com), November 15, 2001.

NO MORE ANONYMITY ON THIS THREAD FROM NOW ON PLEASE! THANKS.

-- Tom (ebros@netcomuk.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

Don't encourage me.

-- Ronan (ronan.fitzgerald6@mail.dcu.ie), November 15, 2001.

ned. in a good way.

-- mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchnet70@hotmail.com), November 15, 2001.

Clearly I don't post enough.

-- Dan Perry (djperry@post.harvard.edu), November 15, 2001.

Anyone with a genuine big ego can take people pointing it out anyway.

I nominate Dave Q, Ethan, and Ally.

-- Ronan (ronan.fitzgerald6@mail.dcu.ie), November 15, 2001.

Aw, thanks Mitch. Sorry, Dan, you need to let your self-love shine through more. :-)

-- Ned Raggett (ned@kuci.org), November 15, 2001.

I don't think that having a large ego is neccessarily an insult. Clearly, when the three people who get listed most often are Suzy, Ally, and I that is pretty complimentary company to be in. As Tom points out, you have to be pretty tough to achieve any kind of success without self belief.

What is sexist is when people start to draw conclusions about why only women with large personalities are being chosen, when men with equally large egos are not nominated. This sexism also springs from the assumption that saying someone has a large ego = an insult.

Saying that I have a large ego is not an insult. I've spent a long, long time building up a self esteem at all, and my large personality is a carefully cultivated and sometimes constructed work of art. I have spent so much of my life hating myself, that I'm not going to apologise for the times that I love myself. If you don't like that, well, it's your loss.

Now freaking vote for my ego already!

-- kate (masonicboom@yahoo.co.uk), November 15, 2001.

Would you all feel better if it was changed to "greatest amount of healthy self-esteem?" Because if it was I'd still vote for the aforementioned people, only it would sound unambiguously ego-boosting and, unfortunately, quite awkward.

-- Maria (silyl_aria@yahoo.com), November 15, 2001.

Listen, can certain people not complain when threads turn nasty when the category itself has a nasty ring to it? Don't give a nasty category and then cry into your soup when it goes all cobblers, silly.

ANYHOW, I vote Kate because she is such a good campaigner that she has convinced me. If she hadn't MIND-CONTROLLED me with her fabulous campaigning skillz, however, I'd vote Ethan or Momus, so put them in too.

PS me, Kate and Suzy are fabulous company, everyone, and we also seem to be quite successful people in at least some way, so really this doesn't seem particularly nasty to me

-- Ally (garance80@yahoo.com), November 15, 2001.

I like slightly nasty categories best anyway. I haven't voted in "Nicest Poster" because that's just dull.

-- Maria (silyl_aria@yahoo.com), November 15, 2001.

Dan Perry (happy Dan?).

-- stevo (stefanrood@hotmail.com), November 15, 2001.

Fatnick is the only one with a fanclub so...

-- Madchen (madchen_in_uniform@yahoo.co.uk), November 16, 2001.

Momus.

-- RickyT (boyofbadgers@yahoo.com), November 16, 2001.

Ally. The other one, obviously.

-- Ally C (allycook96@hotmail.com), November 16, 2001.

Ronan :) You are the 1! Gale.

-- Gale Deslongchamps (gale@gosympatico.ca), November 16, 2001.

Dave Q and Suzy.

-- Robin Carmody (robin@elidor.freeserve.co.uk), November 16, 2001.

i hope either kate or suzy or ally get this though. wimmin with egos = classic.

-- di (ladydie@another.com), November 17, 2001.

When science finally locates the center of the universe, some people will be surprised to learn they're not it.

-- Samantha (glowgurl79@yahoo.com), November 20, 2001.

Everyone knows the center of the universe is Falco anyhow.

-- Ally (garance80@yahoo.com), November 20, 2001.

But he's dead! SOB!

-- Samantha (glowgurl79@yahoo.com), November 20, 2001.

Yeah, I know, it's really a damned shame such a bright light was taken from us so suddenly and so before its time. But still, we have Simon Le Bon.

-- Ally (garance80@yahoo.com), November 20, 2001.

That's what I want for xmas Ned -- a copy of your Falco movie.

The Falco movie is the bomb.

-- Nicole (ndwillett@home.com), November 21, 2001.

There's a Falco movie?!?

-- Samantha (glowgurl79@yahoo.com), November 21, 2001.

God, I wish I actually owned it! A friend knows where it's available at a local rental store -- it is in fact a German film, 1984, a romantic comedy set in the music video/business world. PURE cheese. Die Toten Hosen have a key role, Falco a 'brilliant' cameo and Limahl, who apparently was a god in Germany at the time, a climactic end appearance in all his mulleted glory. I will investigate further about this piece of wonder, though.

-- Ned Raggett (ned@kuci.org), November 21, 2001.

Aw, I thought you had a copy! Back to drawing board...

-- Nicole (ndwillett@home.com), November 22, 2001.

Did Graham have to use my full name up there? Now all my friends can google my name and find out I have a big ego.

-- Ronan (ronan.fitzgerald6@mail.dcu.ie), November 22, 2001.
