Insatiable banalities aside stumper

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Today I will be gone for most of the day with medical appointments, just bloodwork and eyedoctor.

There are hidden hints within my posts, installed for about the last 15 days or so, have any of you found them? There is a missing number in todays question, all you got to do is find it.

January 20, April 10, May 5, November 15, July __?

I just got back, its 3:00 and no body has posted anything? O.K., hint- look for a pattern. This one is very simple if you find the pattern, I thought someone would have said something by now.~

The month part I haven't a clue, the numbers decrease by 1/2 until you get to the November 15 date, but if I take 1/2 of this I get 7 1/2 which isn't a real date, so I guess that isn't logical...

the only thing that comes to mind is by 5's, so could it be september 25? I needed something else to work with, sorry Mitch.

Jillian, open your receptors to a wider band.

Hints hidden in the last 15 days' worth of stumpers for THIS stumper???????

-- Cathy N. (keeper8@attcanada.ca), November 15, 2001.

Hidden hint only refer to the question asked that day, can you say "tweer" if I understand the spelling correctly. Who said that the numerals refer to dates anyway?~

EEEEKKKKKKK!!!!!! Pulling hair out in Oklahoma. lol I've looked at this stumper so much that I forgot my original idea. lol

I've looked at divided by 2's then divided by 3's. I've looked at days of the week patterns and then that's when everything goes nuts. lol At one point I had an idea it might be August 5th, but I actually don't know how I arrived there. I'm a writer and goat farmer. lol I don't do numbers well.

Another clue?

Okay, Mitch. I am going to guess that the number for July is 10, but I'm not sure how you get from January to April, and so on, so I don't know how to continue the pattern. But if my theory is correct, then the number for February would be 20.

-- Cathy N. (keeper8@attcanada.ca), November 15, 2001.

Correct Cathy N., now what was your theory?

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), November 15, 2001.

Well, you take the number of syllables in the word and multiply by 5. January has 4 syllables; multiplied by five gives you 20. Did you list the months randomly?

-- Cathy N. (keeper8@attcanada.ca), November 15, 2001.

Yes, the months were listed randomly and is not the puzzle very simple when you break the code? Readers, whats going on here is that I am trying to get you to think seperatly of normal patterns. Would the puzzle have been as tough if I posted it as: dictionary 20, standard 10, word 5, today __? The fact that the numbers were low, less than a months day count led me to use months as the device to creat a path to normal thinking patterns, which you did. You lead yourselves away from the obvious answer by being distracted by the presence of months, assuming that the numbers were dates.

Mitch, you have entirely too much brain power.

Theres more stimulation and motivation on here to think, then i get in a day of school. Yet that sometimes seems to comsume me more, time wise.

Yes, you're right Mitch, the months did destract me. I had the 10 figured out from the "hint" in your earlier posts but could not come up with a pattern that made sense because of the months.

Oops!! I didn't mean to hit "send" right then and send of that message above. Wouldn't have left Mitch's response as part of my response (just pasted it up to read while I was writing) and I didn't even put my name at the end :-). Oh well, sigh.
