Disadvantages of buying an eos 3000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am thinking of buying a cannon eos 3000. Is it worth paying extra and getting the eos 300? What, if any, are the disadvantages of the eos 3000? Any thoughts on how the eos 3000 compares to the pentax mz30? many thanks Adrian

If the choices were an EOS 3000 or Pentax MZ30, I'd get the Pentax. It has more features. But if the choice expands to the EOS 300, I'd get it. The 300 adds a better flash system and better autofocusing.

The Pentax has the advantage of being able to easily use cheap old Pentax manual focus lenses, that are often quite good but low priced. The Canon offers better choices for upgrading later. So if you are going to keep your photography to low cost options, the Pentax is a better deal. If you think you might expand to better stuff later, I'd go with Canon.

The difference between the EOS 3000 and EOS 300 is that the EOS 300 has depth of field preview and does E-TTL flash. Both have evaluative/matrix metering and 9.5% spot/partial metering.

The Pentax MZ-30 would be equivalent to the EOS 3000 in that it, too, lacks depth of field preview. However, the MZ-30 metering is only evaluative/matrix, with no provision for spot/partial metering.

Help me out here....

EOS 3000 and EOS300?

Are these the European designations? If so, can someone enlighten me as to the American names so that I can keep up?

Thank you.

I'm also thinking about buying a canon eos 3000. I've been shopping around and as far as I can tell, the eos 300 is equivalent to the canon rebel 2000 (found in the US). This will be my first camera purchase and I think I'll be going for the eos 3000 for the mere fact that it costs so much less than the others. It's hard to choose when people keep knocking the fact that it is lacking in features...I wish I could hear from someone who owns one.

Canon EOS 3000 is aka EOS 88 in Asia. Now the EOS 3000 has itself been replaced by the EOS 3000N aka EOS 66 in Asia.

Its improvements over the EOS 3000 are:

Manual focusing point selection provided (only automatic selection available on the EOS 3000) In-focus focusing point displayed Night Scene mode provided E-TTL autoflash metering with EX Speedlites AEB provided Function settings (red-eye reduction, beeper, multiple exposure, AEB) provided.
