Keep believing. Poe has his own critiques of Hawthorne that you can look up at www.eapoe.org. Thoreau detested Poe for his attacks on the Boston establishment(The Frog Pond) and called him "the jingle man." Throeau abandonned the Frog Pond for Walden Pond. When Hawthorne saw Emerson coming down the driveway he lit out the back window. Transcendentalism, symbolism, 19th Century American Romanticism. These guys were all unique and different and their followers alienated from each other's schools. You will probably have to seek out separate books and websites on the Transcendentalists, Poe(www.eapoe.org, poedecoder.com) and Hawthorne.

Actually, that was Emerson who called Poe "The jingle man," not Thoreau.
