EOS 3 battery trouble

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

My camera had a little brain fart yesterday. EOS 3 with PB-E2, 50mm f/1.8 Mk II, Quantum radio slave transmitter plugged into the PC outlet.

In the middle of an exposure, the camera froze. I let go of the button, then pushed it again and the shutter completed it's cycle. I pushed the battery check button and I got 1 bar. Okay, I'll switch batteries. But I'll rewind this roll first. It went back from 19 without any trouble. Full speed rewind. I installed new batteries and then reloaded another roll and moved it up to frame 26 on the new batteries. That's the dilemma. Does the shutter require so much power that a low battery will not let it complete, but you can still rewind a roll? I got another freeze with the new cells. Hmmm. Could the radio slave cause an odd set of circumstances with low batteries? Camera is fine today with fresh cells and no transmitter...

I had mine focus tracking a bird and as I went to fire the shutter it wouldn't, 1 bar of battery left, changed them no problem
