American Airlines Flight 587 Serviced In Tulsa

Annual Overhaul Included Inspection Of Components

Posted: 8:23 a.m. CST November 13, 2001

TULSA, Okla. -- A jetliner en route to the Dominican Republican that crashed minutes after take off Monday had been overhauled at a Tulsa maintenance facility, an American Airlines spokeswoman said.

American said 260 people were aboard the flight that crashed into a New York City neighborhood. Authorities said 265 bodies had been recovered, but didn't provide details of how many people might have died on the ground.

Six to nine people in the neighborhood were missing, authorities said.

The airline has 35 of the Airbus A300 jetliners in its fleet.

The planes are brought to American's Maintenance and Engineering Center at Tulsa International Airport for an annual maintenance overhaul that includes tearing apart the engines and inspecting their components.

American spokeswoman Sonya Whitemon confirmed Monday that "major" maintenance of the A300 that went down Monday was performed at the Tulsa maintenance center.

Meanwhile, flights remained on schedule Monday at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City despite the closing of New York area airports following the crash of an American Airlines jet in Queens.

Airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said there was little affect on flights in or out of Oklahoma City.

Flights to the East Coast are expected to be the only ones affected, Carney said, with little, if any, impact anticipated on flights to Midwestern or West Coast airports.

I'm confused. How did Barefoot sneak the plane into Florida?

Oh, and think I heard this weekend that one of the densest Muslim populations in the country is in Oklahoma, or perhaps as a percentage of the local population? Anyone familiar with this?

Brooks,

I wasn't aware that there was such a high concentration located in the state. I have seen large numbers, but I figured it was due to where I work. I don't really have time to travel the state, so I am not sure what population numbers we are talking about in other areas.

Sometimes, I'm glad that I walk around with the "Don't Mess With Me" look. Most people see me and turn and go the opposite direction. Gotta earn my name everyday. ;)

The plane left Miami after being serviced and flew to New York, then when it took off from New York it crashed.

Tulsa is where the annual overhauls are done. Note: annual.

The article doesn't even say when the plane was last in Tulsa.

That is just the airlines main maintenance yard, I guess.

"Gotta earn my name everyday" Are you referring to "apoc"? So, it stands for something?

Kewl! What I found, in the way of specific acronyms, include: African Program for Onchocerciasis Control; Advance Post Office Check; apolipoprotein c; A Piece Of Cloth; Alaska Public Offices Commission; Advanced Paging Operator Code; Anglo-Persian Oil Company; Advanced Personnel Officer Course; Atlanta Paralympic Organising Committee; Australian Physical Oceanography Conference..

There's exactly one buried in there that reminds of you.

Brooks,

Then there is apoc = "A Pissed Off Chick"

But I can agree, there is another in your list that lists me. LOL
