Rob Lee replacement ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Anyone know anything about this guy ?

"Rob Lee is again being linked with a move to West Ham - with The Sun reporting his switch hinges on Newcastle finding a replacement.

The paper claims that Lee, 35, will join the team he supported as a boy for £500,000 if Bobby Robson can bring in a new face.

That player is understood to be Seville's 25-year-old midfielder Francisco Casquero, who is rated at £3million."

Answers

General opinion here is that very average best describes Casquero.

in fact half of them don't even know who he is!

Let me reproduce my post from Sunday on another thread:

The S/Sun reckon we're also interested in Seville's 25 yr-old defensive midfield player, Fransisco Casquero. They say we had watched last night against Real Betis, after BR and SJH saw him play an outstanding game last week, including scoring a goal, in Seville's 3-1 defeat of Malaga. Apparently, he has been receiving rave reviews all season.

They reckon he could he acquired for about £3mm - considerably cheaper than either Musampa or Emerton.

See I'm just a partime poster ;-)

Hmmm. Apparently, a Premiership side with an unrealistically high placing in the table put in a bid for Scholes last week. On the basis of the mirth this is causing at OT, I hope it was Villa and not us.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

sounds like Sunderland to me

Kenyon laughs off pretender''s Scholes'' bid

As we reported last week Scholes is going nowhere. This has been confirmed by Deep Throat who reports Kenyon laughed out an audacious (the word really doesn''t do it justice, the cheeky c**ts) bid for the Ginger Prince in the wake of the Arsenal affair. The bid came in last week from a much, lesser PL rival whose current lofty perch seems to have deluded them into believing that they''re something they''re not. Sorry we can''t name them direct (sources, sources) but believe us, they''re proper cheeky c**ts.

see it is Sunderland, just one too many * in their, and he meant "cats " really

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

I think it's Villa personally. Sunderland are not high enough in the table. Wish it was us though, means we might have a fair bit of cash.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

Lynda, I wouldn't have thought Villa had Scholes-type money....If Dyer had been fit, I can see us suggesting a swap of some sort, but otherwise, I can't see anyone in the top 10 having that sort of money...

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

Couldn't have been us. No mention of Farcelino in the deal. With the state of their defence right now, they'd have bitten wor hands off. They've got plenty of cover for the Ginge Minge but nowt at the back. With Blanc, Neville P and Farcelino in their defence (not to mention Barthez) can you imagine any EPL forward wanting to go near them? F***in' scary if you ask me. Add Freddy Kruger and they'd be invincible.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

Another reason it couldn't have been us is that we couldn't have resisted telling everyone about it to prove how ambitious we are... In retrospect, the Mancs have got a nerve laughing at anyone bidding for Scholes: after all, while they have been fannying around with formations to accommodate Veron, ruining their defence and genberally taking their eye off the ball, other sides have been building teams on the blindside: with the addition of Scholes, I think we could challenge for things.

Fulham??

Got to be the toon.

Kev, it's better to try and fail than to wallow in mediocrity and pass it off as an improvement.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

Nice comment but lost on me.

I cannot control SAFC as much as I would want to.

You cannot brag about trying when ultimately it was not you or any common or garden supporter who 'fired you up'.

You should just count your blessings that someone did try.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

I do daily, thank you very much.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

Well thats ok then. But I often feel that Newcastle fans use it against me and try to attain higher ground 'cos you got the Halls and we got Murray.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

In fairness, Kev, it's just a defence thing: you mock a bit of Keegan hyperbole, we say that it's better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. Just banter really.

Do you get the Times on Saturday. In this month's Football Review, the in-house Makem was discussing October and said, "In the football furnace that is the North East, it's said that Newcastle fans are the eternal optimists, Boro fans are the eternal realists and Sunderland fans are the eternal pessimists". This sort of surprised me because your lot have been more optimistic (to my mind) in the past five years than I can ever remember previously, which suggests that Murray isn't as bad as all that...

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

Complete agreement form me about pessimism.

It even spills into my everyday life.

Downtrodden may be another way of describing SAFC fans though.

Snap out of it, man, you could support Rotherham.

PS. I've taken to going and watching Consett playing when it doesn't clash with a Newcastle game. It's wonderful: crowds of about 37, tackles that make your eyes water and they haven't won a single one of their opening 12 games. In fact, it was headlines in the Consett & Stanley Advertiser when they held Durham City to a draw. "Steelman hold out for draw against City". There's something really cheering about the lads going out and playing despite all this. I don't know who your local non-league side are, but I can recommend the odd visit.

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

He does already! Well, they might be in a few years time ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 13, 2001

Kevs local side play in black and white, have slid from being last north east side to win at Wembley, to bottom of 2nd division Northern League, not much joy to be had there

-- Anonymous, November 14, 2001

Have established that it was Villa who made the bid. How in God's name can Villa afford that sort of bid?

-- Anonymous, November 14, 2001

LOL. Apparently the bid was..wait for it....£9 million.

-- Anonymous, November 14, 2001

Has nobody told them the boots wont work unless they sign the player as well

-- Anonymous, November 14, 2001

clearly Gregory doesn't want to spend as much money on Scholes as he did for Angel

-- Anonymous, November 14, 2001

Has Angel completed a full 90mins yet? I recall Satan's comments on his new bank breaking signing - (paraphrased) "I don't like the way he scores goals, they seem to go in off his knee, the back of his head or his backside, anywhere but his feet". Welcome to Villa Park.

Mac - Is that Tow Law ?

My Dad came from there and I've got good memories of games with my Grandad there. They'll pull round.

no Whickham, FA Vase winners in 1981

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Ememrton has now expressed an interest in joining Leeds, by the way. If Championship Manager stats are anything to go by, we should relieve them of Steven McPhail.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Finally got to watch the England under 21 game last night. Ameobi had a good game but I was really watching fan the fart to see what he was like after comments on previous threads. Although he had a good game and was excellant on the ball. He was playing as a forward and i thought we were after a midfielder.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Not knocking Ameobi, as he had a good game in a number of ways, but his drag back is definitely his main party piece - needs to develop a few more tricks. But hey, it worked a treat against the Dutch so good luck to him. And if you can do something well, why hide it? Beardsley's shuffle comes to mind. I suppose what I'm saying is that if you're going to try it on, bide your time and do it where it hurts rather than in midfield or on the wing (which I seem to recall from Ameobi in some of his League games).

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

It's a bit tough for him though Peter, he gets 5 minutes to show us what he can do and has to decide whether to do his drag back right away or hide it in the 4th minute when they least expect it :-)

Give the poor bugger at least 30 minutes every game. Good for him and good for Shearer/Bellamy to last the season.

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

Yes, I think you're right Softie :-) Thought about that after I'd written the above. There must be a tendency to pack in all you're little tricks in the limited time available, rather than be a bit more selective. I get a feeling though, these U21 games are going to be a real bonus for him (and us). Shame there's so much competition amongst the forwards, with Vassell, Defoe, Christie etc..

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

If he ever learns to head the ball with confidence then he'll be magic. Amazing how someone so young steps up to the first team and scores so many goals without the slightest interest from the media. Remember all the fuss over Owen, Christie and Jeffers when they each appeared? He'd be even better playing alongside people in their proper positions (unlike last season).

-- Anonymous, November 15, 2001

There was a snippet from YBR in one of today's papers saying thae under no circs will be buying or even looking for a new striker because we have Ameobi who is going to be a top quality striker. I'm not sure what the context was as they didn't have the space to put more than a few words but no doubt he was being asked whether it was true that we were after Mpenza.
