According to Yahoo just now (9:40 EST) the Taliban is pulling out of Kabul. I can't fucking believe it.

What is wonderful about this situation, I think, is the contrast with the Taliban rhetoric that we have been subjected to up to now. For example, the Taliban leader Omar speaking about the glory of dying for Islam.

Another great thing, about the present situation, is that now food aid can pour into the country without being comandeered by those bastards. (I must say, tho, that our bombing hitting food warehouses really blew my mind.)

To be fair, there were credible reports that the Taliban were storing armor and weapons in those warehouses. I expect we shall get more info on that later. Still, as long as we pour in the supplies with our usual generosity, that will go a long way to making up for it. And, when the accounting is done, the number of civilians who were, unfortunately, killed in the bombings will pale by comparison to those executed for trimming their beards or looking at the Taliban funny or whatever. I imagine the stream of horror stories will match or exceed the stream of humanitarian supplies.
