Slightly OT -- Steve McCurry TV Interview

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

This is slightly off-topic and not a question. However, it concerns one of the greatest photojournalists ever. This weekend, CNN's "Larry King Weekend" features a brief interview with Steve McCurry. He discusses that famous picture of the Afghani refugee girl and his thoughts on Afghanistan in general. As they say... check your local listings. Tony, feel free to delete this thread after this weekend

Phil, thanks for those links. I hadn't seen either of those sites before.

Thanks to all for the links and TV info. I wish I could see it (don't have a TV)- but maybe I'll get a chance.

Along the same lines, I thought I'd share the link of a classic landscape photographer, Luke Powell. I somehow came across his site maybe 3 years ago, where he has wonderful images from Central Asia from almost a generation ago.

Click here for an essay he wrote, and a way to get into his galleries (if you click on the image at the bottom).

BTW, perhaps this thread could be files under "Subject matter"?

Hello:

Yes, it was brief- about 5 min max.

There were a few more picures of "The Girl" and her family and a discussion of some of his impressions of the Afghan people.

For the public, likely an interesting glimpse, but for me, too short. More of his pictures and recollections aould have been great. One of the few times I have seen photojournalists given th credit they deserve in the mass media, other than a meaningless credit and anonymous name along the side of a photo.

Cheers
