Daniel HARRIS Estate Record

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Genealogy Queries for Stanly County, North Carolina : One Thread

Daniel Harris' estate is supposed to be listed in the Settlement of Estates Book, Vol 2 p. 90-92. The time was about March 1870. We have searched the court house and could not find this volume. Does anyone have a copy of this record that we could obtain a copy of? Thanks. Jack Munson Waco, TX

The book should be at the courthouse in Albemarle. If not, the record should be found on microfilm at the library. The estate book records normally conbtain a formalized presentation of the final accounting, estate sale, and information relted to estate division. Years ago, most of the counties in North Carolina handed over "loose estate" records for safe keeping at archives in Raleigh NC. This is by far a better resource for the study of family history. The loose record is the file of all surviving documents that make up the estate. They contain petitions, family maneuvers, estate maintenance, and even payment for efforts to find heirs that have moved away. The record includes receipts and notes. Looking at the index to loose estates on the Stanly Genweb site, it appears Daniel did leave a loose estate record.
