Leica IIIa and cable release

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I have a Leica IIIa which is a joy to use. I have had it for a little while but I have never managed to figure out how to use a cable release on it. Does anyone know how ?

It takes the old style of cable releases with an internally threaded cap that fits over the release button. The Nikon F and F2 take the same release as well.

The Nikon cable release is called the AR-2. It's available new from any Nikon dealer. B&H sells it new for $18.95. Try this link:

They are great releases; I use it with my Leica IIIf.

Thanks John and Tony for your replies. I will now obtain one of the older style cable releases.

To use a normal cable release you can get a little cup-shaped adapter, it might be worth scrounging around at the local second-hand shop. The same thing fits a Nikon F.
