What's in pet food?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

The CBS affiliate in St. Louis ran a story last night about what goes into pet food. I feel asleep before it ran but looked it up today on their website. It can be found at www.kmov.com/news/AllmanReport/AllmanReport-110801.html. We have mad cow--now we may have another meaning to mad cat and mad dog.

Tonight the story will cover how these products can get into the human food chain and it will be on www.kmov.com as well.

Nor for the faint of heart.

Yup, I have heard this from other places before. A friend had a turkey farm and he sold the feathers to a pet food company. He said it was call "protein added" on the label.

An excerpt form the site:

"other things allowed in pet food like scraps from slaughter houses, ground up chicken beaks and feathers, and recycled grease from Chinese restaurants and fried chicken stands."

Had trouble with your link, I used:

Other than the dash, don't see any difference.

Yep. Another good reason to feed BARF to your dogs & cats.

What is BARF? I have dogs also and certainly want to feed them healthy food. Please let me know. Thanx!
