I'm home! Yippee!!!!!

Home at last!

Power was connected last night around 8-9 o'clock. We are rather ticked that they moved us in and left us without power, though. Seems to us that part of the deal was to repair the house and have the electric working, ya know?

But, we're here finally! Checked outta the hotel at 7 am this morning, loaded up the car and headed homeward. Now someone has to unpack all the friggin boxes while I surf.

I really missed my adsl connection. The hotel dial up was slow, for all that it always said 57600bps.

Our boys are here, ma and pa brought them over this morning. Miss Kitty will be here tonight. We have to go get her when there are two of us so one can hold her, otherwise she wants to sit behind the clutch pedal all the time.

So far so good, but I can't stand the smell of the paint, or is that the carpet. Dunno, but have to take breaks and go outside.

I'll get some pictures up on line at the other place so you can see. A little later, tho, I have to do some stuff around here so it looks like I was busy. LOL

Sounds like you need to keep the windows open for a while (I hear you can do that in areas like Florida, sigh).

It's been a long haul for you. I had no idea what my homeowner's policy allows, so I just called to amend the policy if necessary. Turns out I already have quite a bit of coverage. With two very frail parents, I can't afford to wing it.

At any rate, congratulations. I'm sure the boys will find a way to let you make it up to them.

Thank you, my friends!

I did indeed open the windows. A real nice breeze going thru now, but activity like unpacking boxes means breaking a sweat, so...I'll surf a bit. LOL

The boys seem quite content to be home again. I wonder if they will miss the walks, though.

They installed these two real nice looking fans in the kitchen/dining room. Unfortunately, the one in the kitchen is a bit too wide. 52" like the original, but the original one had blades with little points on them, while these are more paddle shaped. We had it on highspeed this morning, and I opened the cupboard to get a coffee cup and WHAM! the fan hit the door, yanked it outta my hand and slammed it shut! They gotta go. I ain't having that!

I have a nice new washer and dryer set, but can't use the washer until the plumbing is fixed over there, or I find the stretch wrap to connect it to plastic hose to drain outside on the bananas. Since I can't use the washer, no need to use the dryer. The water heater works real well. The dishwasher seems to be connected okay, we ran it a little last night to be sure. We washed one dog dish. Everything else is clean. LOL Now I have a dirty knife cuz I made a sandwich, and of course my coffee cup, but I'm still using the cup.

Still haven't found my stereo. I have the speakers and the turntable, but the rest is in a box somewhere, I guess. They said the futon cushion was ready at the cleaners yet, so that still has to come. I don't know where to put it since the frame is standing on end in the other bedroom with all the boxes.

i need at least three more strong guys to help get that waterbed mattress back into the bedframe. Then I can fill it up, as soon as I find the drain/fill kit thing. Meantime we sleep on the floor or the sofa. Maybe the futon if it gets here and I find a place. Hmmm, maybe put that in the waterbed frame? naw...

The yard man is due soon. I'll have to close the windows when he gets here, too much dust, ya know.

We're debating whether to let the cable people reconnect us or just get the new dish for the sat. I want the dish back, but the cable is cheaper for the short term.

Okay, off to surf some. Be back later after I do another box. Sure wish we knew whether they're gonna have to move us back out for the plumbing repair. Wouldn't that be a drag?

I hope that you don't have to move out for the plumbing repairs! Boy, that would have to be an extensive project. I'd be tempted to pull out my camping shower and porta-potty if that were the case, rather than move out again.

You had mentioned the possibility of selling your house. We're currently in a buyer's market with those lowered interest rates. Over the last couple of days, I've had several notes and even a personal visit for a realtor interested in my property. This sort of thing generally happens only in the spring. But it's Novemember, or at least that's what my calendar says.

Bed--buy one of those Coleman air beds at a camping store, not forgetting the battery-operated pump. Very comfortable! Maggie sleeps on an air bed, fancier of course, and loves it.

Great news!!! oh boy......bet you are like a kid in a toy store! and appreciate everything there SO MUCH MORE!!!!!!!

Sure is nice to be home, you bet!

Had to close up for the lawn dude. Can't be having any dust coming in, eh?

I found my stereo but not the wires. hmmm.

Doggies have been sitting next to me at the computer, but go under the tables when I start with the boxes. LOL I think they are happy to be here, too. Will be interesting when Miss Kitty shows up tonight. She hasn't been outside since she went to Grandma's house. Poor thing, having to sleep on all those different beds all day long. No wonder she's tired all the time.

The air mattress sounds like a great idea. Will broach that idea this evening. Miss Kitty will love it, I'm sure!~

having the grass cut makes it look so much better. Cuts all the painted grass blades. Why they had to paint stuff on the lawn out front I don't understand. They could have done it in the carport with all the drop clothes I had out there. i had a whole box of plastic sheeting sitting out there. They threw it away, unused, apparently. I kept it on hand for those 'just in case things' that happen.

The a/c sure cools down fast! I had a thermostat here that tells the tempurature and time, but can't find it now. Was on the table last night....mst be a ghost in here or something!

Ah, right, cats and airbeds--we put an egg crate mattress topper and a couple of comforters over ours before we put the bottom sheet on, lol!

Congrats, Barefoot! Wishing you and yours a happy new home!

-- Anonymous, November 09, 2001

Barefoot,

Guess those bare feet are glad to be kicked up on your own furniture.

Sorry it has taken me so long to say how happy I am that you are once again home. Meetings and configuring 2 tera-bytes of storage sorta took up my day.

I'll tip one up for ya across the miles.

Nothin' beats home, does it?

First night in the house. sure miss that hotel bed.

gotta get that waterbed sorted out today!

Congrats Barefoot on being home again! Give the dogs and cat a hug and kiss for me.

Like Old Git said, I love my air mattress!

Well, we discussed it. Tried to find a regular mattress thinking that it was only for a short while and that it would be the guest bed afterward.

Ended up buying a new waterbed mattress cheaper than a regular bed. The old one was too far gone for us to get the waveless insert spread out evenly. The local store said they could try, but that we had to bring it to them. Like we could carry it. LOL

Bought some new sheets and pillows to go with it.

The sales associate said to try the heater after getting some water in the mattress to make sure it worked. That was a major concern of mine, whether the heater worked or not. It didn't. Went back and bought a new heater.

Sleeping better tonight.

Miss Kitty is quite happy around here now. The boys have settled in well.

We're wondering if they are going to move us out again while the bathroom drainline is being dug up and repaired. last we heard from the plumber is, 'you have a major problem under your house.'

Sleep well, everyone.
