Leica Screw Mount Photographers! :) Man...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I was skimming through Leica Gallery again last night on the web (surfing again)... and was looking at the webpage http://www.leicagallery.com/leicaphotographers.htm where there is a directory of Leica pros using the equipment... obviously tons of M users as expected... suddenly I saw this section pop out in my mind.'LSM' System Photographers - Leica Screw Mount

Bob Todrick - 'Cafes' and 'Nudes'

Richard Comen - A selection of Top Class photos 'France'

Gerald Widen - Images from Long Island, New York (see 'Starry Window' for a very interesting shot)

Henrik Claesson Pipping - Variety of interesting Images

Dang!!! These four dudes are totally cool to be using the old shebang :) I am so happy to skim through their photos and see that classic Leica look which impressed me... For example, just check out:

the Starry Window shot...

http://www.leicagallery.com/photogal/starry_window.htm is proof that old lens don't suck at all... in fact, I have to admit that I see so much of the firm detail especially on the way that the light hits the stone better than some of my Nikon F shots.

And there is my personal favorite:

http://www.leicagallery.com/photogal/artlover.htm where a lady is checking out an abstract painting. you just see the firm detail popping out left and right from the painting and see the individual hair filaments on the chick too. I guess that it definitely shows that the classic Leica outfit can deliver.

Which explains why I've been looking on the hunt for a lot of LSM stuff lately :)

Alfie, thanks for the comments on the Starry Window Shot. I had just picked up a IIIc on ebay and unkown to me there were pinholes in the curtains. So whenever I took off the cap the film started to get exposed with little stars.

Thanks for your reply. I do like the effect that the pinhole cloth shutter has on the photograph because it provides solid contrast. I have to admit that I have a "fetish" for the FED 3 which I just got some Leica LSM lens to experiment with. I probably don't care too much about the camera body (as long as it works well which it does) and then stick the Leitz glass on top which works rather well :)

Of course the effect was so alluring that I thought that it was rather creative with "fake snow" during a summer photograph :) That is why using your Leica IIIc is certainly providing a lot more creative control.

The only question is whether this effect is more noticeable in scenes of brighter light e.g. outside in full sun rather than the indoor settings.

Having used a IIIf to shoot the back/inside covers of 3 CD's, I can tell you this, you be better be ready for the challenge. I also used the LTM Summarit on an M2 with equal but easier to load and focus results...

Loading for me isn't so bad because I use a Russian FED 3 camera with Contax-style loading which is a lot easier in the dark... And so far it's been doing me a good job with the 39mm LTM lens too. I can't wait to get back my photographs however :) and check it all out without a doubt.

The M2 sounds good too... of course, I can't wait to get my hands on those limited-editions LTM lens which Leica served to the Japanese market only! :( Oh well... hmmm.
