Unlikely story on "OneFootball.com" tonight:

EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle on trail of £15m Musampa (6/11/2001)

Newcastle United coach Bobby Robson has revealed he is contemplating a bid for £15 million-rated Malaga midfielder Kiki Musampa. "He could do well in the system we play" he told OneFootball.com. "But I need to see him play a few more times."

The former England boss travelled with Magpies president Sir John Hall to La Rosaleda on Sunday to watch the 24-year-old in his side's 3-1 defeat by Seville. Newcastle representives have now watched five of Malaga's ten matches this season. A member of the coaching staff saw them play Betis at home and Real Madrid away, while Sir John was there when the Andalucians took on Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

Former Ajax and Bordeaux star Musampa, who has a £15 million buy-out clause and a contract that runs until June 2004. Malaga president Serafin Roldan said: "There are reports but there has been no offer put on the table."

Serie A giants Lazio are also reportedly interested in former Holland Under-21 Musampa, who has scored five goals this term. The Congo-born midfielder is in his third season in Spain, where he is a first-team regular after injuries hampered his first two campaigns. He was at Ajax for three years before joining Bordeaux in 1997, where he stayed for two seasons before becoming Malaga's first big-name signing after the club secured promotion.

Musampa, who has a reputation for wild nights out, was alleged to have attacked a woman who scratched his car after a defeat by Numancia in February 2001.

Hhmmm - I suspect we can forget this one also!

he is a first-team regular after injuries hampered his first two campaignsWould fit in well I think.

Personally I think we should get Dter fit and then swap him for Scholes and Butt at Man U. That should sort out our midfield worries for a while!

Safer getting Nicky Butt for 8 million.

Man U supporters I know down here really do not rate Butt at all. Say he can't pass, can't head the ball and goes missing from games.

I suppose he suffers by comparison to Keane but I've never been that impressed by him. I suppose he could do a job and may well improve with regular football.

As for Musampa - he likes wild nights out. Good bet for us then, the Quayside/Bigg Market would be a big attraction.

I remember Musampa from his Ajax days when he wasn't all that impressive. Subsequent reports from Bordeaux suggested his career wasn't on fire, + after that he fell off my radar. God only knows whats happened since if the likes of Lazio really are considering offering 15 mill for him. Anyone seen him in Spain?

Lynda, have you detected a slight softening in the Mancs' opinion of Butt? The last one I spoke to (who used to hate Butt) said that he was the heart and soul of the squad!

The last time we bought a Manure player who couldn't get in their side was Alan Davies, something to put off Butt I'd say.

Butt isn't a fantastic player, £5m would be all I would pay.

He seems better because he's playing in a good team, similar to people like Chadwick and Wes Brown, two players who I think would be complete sh*t if they didn't play for a top club.

MUSAMPA, the verdict is 2 million would be a good starting point for negotiations. His club are skint and they NEED money. FORGET it. Now the lad at celta vigo, the russian guy, he'd be worth a punt.

Is that Mostovoi (Sp?), swift? If so, he's a terrific player, but seems a rather moody. I think he may be getting on a bit also.
