Have read all postings on scanners but,

is there really a differance if using scanner for B&W scanning?

No. I've done both on a variety of scanners. Some things that work for color don't work for B&W - Digital Ice dust removal, for example - but otherwise it's all the same. Oh, Nikon Scan 3.x doesn't give me good results with B&W, but I prefer VueScan anyway.

I've owned Polaroid Sprintscan 35ES and Minolta Dimage Scan Dual II, have also used Nikon LS2000, PrimeFilm 1800i and Canon Fs2710. They all work fine with B&W or color neg, to within the limits of their capabilities.

I'm currently using the Minolta. I find that I get better results with B&W using the Minolta software rather than Vuescan, but I use both depending upon which one works better for particular circumstances.
