At the Track

There's this place called Malibu Grand Prix near where I live, maybe they have them in other places. They have these go-karts dressed up to look like race cars and these twisty tracks. Draws a real interesting crowd, lots of fun shooting there.

powerful face; gorgeous tonality in the neg. tech details? did she know you were shooting?

She saw me with the camera and ignored me. It wasn't clear that she knew I was shooting her however, it was quite a bit busier than it looks. I almost approached her about shooting her against a different backdrop, but she had a very big boyfriend.

Technical details...I shot this with a Konica Hexar (autofocus), which has a 35mm lens. Tri-X in Rodinal, probably around f8 and 1/250. Scanned the negative. The scanner I used isn't the one I use for scans I will print, and there is quite a bit of unevenness in the sky. At some point, I will do a better scan and print.

Whatever the circumstance, that is a hard look.

I love the white sky around her head. It really makes the not-so- friendly look jump out at you. The textureof her hair against the background is terrific. I just bought a black Konica Hexar on ebay and I'm waiting for delivery. Can't wait to use it. From what I've read on it it sounds like a great little street camera. After seeing this post I really can't wait.

Any pictures of the boyfriend, then? I like the low angle of the shot; it enforces her expression.
