I'm short of time. You might try the Poe Studies essays on www.eapoe.org or some library book of essays. Things to look for offhand is the story line, the dreamlike tableau of stiuillness, a dead city held in undying suspension until a sudden tremor dissolves that state. Like the Haunted Palace or the Bells, the structure holds a horror now within, a decay like the mesmeric suspensiion tale that will be destroyed upon release. Demons in the sea, the palace or belltower is popular Poe nightmare. This suspended animation or catalepsy is a recurring interest of Poe, definitely for the strong and strange emotional mood it arouses as well as interesting philosophical speculations.
