Metering systems of Rebel 2000/EOS 300

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a rebel 2000/EOS 300 but I'm unsure about which metering systems you can use in which exposure modes. I know it has 35 zone metering, partial metering (~9.5% of area) and center weighted metering but I don't know if you can choose any of the systems in any of the modes you want. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jodi

One of the minor setbacks with the EOS 300/Rebel 2000 is that you can't select metering patterns at will. There is no button or dial for meter patterns like the Elan's have.

Most of the time the EOS 300/Rebel 2000 uses the 35 area evaluative system, but if you press the AE Lock button (the one with a "*" over it) it switches to partial area. Center weighted metering is used in manual mode.

If you think about when you are likely to want partial or center weighted metering, these are usually good combination choices, so the restriction may not matter to you.
