We were in Valencia on holiday last Thursday and found out they were playing a UEFA Cup game. We went along and bought tickets at the door. They cost 800 pesetas - about 2 pounds 50 ! To watch a fantastic team win 6-1 in a huge modern stadium. Not bad at all!!! And if we need any defensive or even attacking midfielders or some defenders, then just buy ANYONE from them.

We were in the Holiday Inn near the new Arts & Science Park for 2 nights. The winter half-term hols is a great time to go to Spain - decent chance of good weather (like this time - 9 days of blue skies and temperatures around 25 degrees) and half price or less at hotels. Valencia is a pretty nice town too. It's true that there aren't many Spanish players who've done well in England, but some of the Valencians looked pretty good to me. Though I know that probably their best player Aimar is actually Argentinian. Mind, the best of all was the one they sold last year Mendieta. Certainly think he would solve a lot of our problems. By the way I checked the Valencia web site and apparently the ground seats fewer than St James - it must have been an optical illusion as it felt much bigger.

I have close links with the region and a few years ago was given a VIP tour of the club with a friend who used to be one of their stars.

When I told Cuper about the plans to extend the capacity of SJP he laughed - said grounds of that size existed in Spain - but only for village teams. I think that he mentioned a capacity of around 75K in his own ground. It certainly looks that size but the uppper terraces are a bit precipitous if you happen to suffer from vertigo.
