Nivva! Do you think deep down even he is fearing that the glory days are over, even with that enormous self-belief we keep hearing about?

You boys are in danger of upsetting clarky!

The sooner Cort is back the better for me.....we need some serious competition up front....

It's a bleeding while since anyone's scored at SJP... The problem for me is that Shearer is playing a holding role. As far as I could tell, last week all he was there for was to take out an Everton defender: nothing more. In truth, because he's so bright etc, he does some valuable work but there has to be something wrong when your CF puts in the superb cross that your winger scores from...

......I'm not rising to the bait this time Gav.
Thanks for the thought though. ;o{)

Thats not fair Clarky! if i've gone to all the trouble of dangling a worm for you then you could at least bite :))

hehe...

PS?? Post Scoring??? Or worse still. past scoring?

Nah Screacher - I think it should be - Past Schmeichel

That volley today was truly world class. And he made a lot of space to give himself room for the strike. As this was the first game I'd manage to see in some time I kept a special eye on Mr Shearer. He is still very mobile - though he doesn't have the pace of Bellamy. But then few do! And Shearer still has the poacher's instincts. The header that shaved the post could easily have gone in.

Sounder,
AS was a lot more mobile yesterday than he has been, and even showed a turn of pace once or twice.
Clearly the extra fitness training he's been putting in is beginning to pay off.
He was a threat throughout the game yesterday, and his linking play was just superb to watch - a masterclass, in fact.

Here's hoping he's finally gotten his match fitness back.....I think we'd all be very happy if that's the case...

Shearer got better as the game wore on, but him and Bellamy seemed perfect together, the amount of times they played each other into moves was unbelievable. The passing was at times world class and a satisfying contrast to some of the dire long balls that we played in the last two home games.

Fantastic, but we've got Fulham away next, and I can't see us winning unfortunately, it just wouldn't be NUFC if we won

Yeh Gav - it's totally unrealistic, but just imagine what a difference it could make to our season if we were to get the old Alan Shearer of 4-5 years ago back, with Bellamy and Robert also in the side, and Cort returning to full fitness.

Hang on a mo Clarky, Shearer's turn of pace was when he was one-on-one with Steve Staunton. He's almost as old as you and me!! Still, I agree about his general play - his best game for a long time, and his best goal for a long time too - home or away.

..... the goal at Boro, just a few weeks ago, wasn't too shabby either Screach.

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2001

.....just another "close your eyes, swing and hope" wasn't it? Or were you talking about the penalty???? ;-)

-- Anonymous, November 04, 2001

Well Shearer is so old that he's losing his sight of course, so every shot is a hit and hope, regardless of whether he closes his eyes or not. ;)

Teddy Sheringham is 4 years older that Shearer and he is undoubtedly a better player than he was 4 years ago. I don't reckon Shearer has another 4 years with his injuries and such, but if he keeps improving then we'll all be smiling at the end of the season.

Imagine if Bellamy and Shearer scored 50 goals between them, with Nobby and Frenchbob chipping in with 12 a piece?

The good thing is that we spread the goals about a bit, Chewsea rely too much on JFH and Sunderland on Sewpah, but we have a few who can score.

As long as Bellamy, Shearer and Lee can stay free of injuries we should do well, the games where Robert and Solano are both on top form are where we are going to beat teams by 4 or 5 goals.
