greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

hello! I am novice in photography. Recently I have purchased a Canon EOS 3000 SLR camera. I have yet to use it. On Camera's lense there is a tiny bright sopt in the corner which is not visible when I see through view finder. Please let me know whether it will affect the quality of photograph. Please also let me know whether I can use 52 mm Kenko UV filter. What is the pupose of using UV filter and how does it effects the quality of picture. Thank You.

The only way to tell if a lens defect will effect the quality of the photograph is to try it and see. Probably, it will not. A spot type defect in a lens usually has to be relatively large to produce any noticable effect. But just because you don't see it in the viewfinder doesn't mean it won't effect the photograph.

You don't mention what lens you have with your EOS 3000, but if your lens accepts 52mm filters it should work fine.

The primary purpose of a UV filter is to protect the front element of your lens. It has a secondary purpose of reducing ultraviolet haze in long distance shots.
