Subject: DivX it for the computer?

http://www.geocities.com/dxaussie01au/index.html

Why such a page on a SVCD & DVD authoring web site?

http://www.geocities.com/aussie01au/index.html

Not every one has a DVD player let alone one that will play SVCD and DVD-R. It is also difficult to traverse the TV system barriers in other countries and still maintain quality on the TV. A lot of DVD players have trouble converting PAL to NTSC and not all users have multisystem TV's.

Simply there is a need to get your DV based projects effectively to a computer screen so that your friends can also see the master piece.

The aim is to author for "old" computers and still using DV based handicam material and putting it through the DivX process for playing effectively in the computer CDROM as well as being able to make SVCD's & DVD-R's for the TV.

Reduce the herring bone effect to a minimum and all those other things that are difficult to achieve.

There will be those that say use this or use that, "your out of date mate" and the image will be better. Sure, but do all of your friends have the latest and the best - I doubt it, hence the restrictions.

Note change in email address - thanks

Hi Long,

Just another option for those in the editing game for home movies.

Not all people have families with all the you bute computers and the stuff necessary to play the VCD, SVCD and DVD product like you an I and others have been doing for years now, well since early 1999 for me (great years) editing home movies since 1994.

Divx gives some nice images on old computer gear that still exists out there.

It is also very difficult to maintain cross the TV formats the original quality of the product in the native TV system. I have sent a demo DVD-R around the world (still in the States somewhere) and hells bells its so difficult for people doing it on NTSC DVD players playing to NTSC TV's to even get close to seeing any quality. Even those that have multi system TV's have trouble playing PAL out of some DVD players. Just one of the pit falls of DVD-R if you want to swap or send to friends in another country its all different.

Based on my experience DivX it for the computer frankly gives a better option in a lot of cases and its easy to do to share the experiences.

:) divx4.02 is a great codec, and I agree with you on that. There is quite a few freeware/shareware player that will play the divx4.02 format and if you have tv out capability on your computer, well it's a blessing also. I have switched over to divx for almost a year now. The quality on this codec beats VCD and SVCD any time...assuming you spend sometime at it. I also enjoyed your write up on the codec...very well put :)
