Who are the main characters in the story Hop-Frog?

Answers

The dwarf and his girl friend Tripetta as the good guys. The King and his ministers as the villains. they seem to stand for Poe(and Virginia?) against the establishment, especially the literary world, even the King of Death.

Many details in this story hark back as a retropsective with a twist on many of Poe's former works. see if you can identify some.(Rue Morgue, Amontillado, Red Death, King Pest, etc.)
