What can be done to preserve VULCANITE

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

The vulcanite- cover of my 1962- M2 develops problems and chips off in small portions. Is there any easy to apply material which can be used to stop the material getting more brittle?

Thanks for your answers

I don't know of any. I think you ought to be able to get a replacement cover, it hasn't been that long since I replaced one on an M3. Leitz' replacement meaterial isn't identical but it looks very much the same as the original.

Have a look at Andrew's Leica FAQ page:

Gehrkes plasticized fly-line dressing although I haven't seen it in any of the fly-fishing catalogs for a while so it may no longer be available.

Thank you very much for your replies.

John C.s hint to the nemeng-site was great! Lots of information on all sorts of thing relating to LEICA. Wonderful site. Didnīt know it before.

In the end: Q- tips and a bit of natural oil once or twice a year do the job.

Best wishes
