Using the Bessa 25/4 Skopar without the finder.

Does anyone use the Bessa R with the 25/4 Skopar lens without the supplied viewfinder??

I had read that looking through the viewfinder and disregarding the framing lines leaves you with approximately the view of a 25mm lens. I had heard this for the Leica .58 body...or was it the .72??

Anyway, does anyone know if this works on the Bessa R?

I use a Bessa-R body with an Ultron 28/1,9 without the finder, and the angle of view without the framelines and looking through the viewfinder but with mi eye so close is the same as with the supplied viewfinder.

The results are similar as the real finder, but, the differences are that nearest subject appears a bit smaller than the the one that is on the final copy. And the farest subject its bigger than the one that you can see with the viewfinder.

I am searching money to buy the viewfinder because I have to put my eye so close to the finder that sometimes hurts.

I dont know if you can put your eye closer than mine in the finder to have the angle of view of a 25mm.

Try it

I use the 25mm without the finder on my Minolta CLE, which is about a .58 mag finder. If you view to the edges, its close enough to 25mm to not need the bother of the finder. I'd say the .58 finder cameras can frame a 24 or 25 OK by viewing to the edges(if you don't wear glasses), but that you won't be able to see but 80% or less of what will be on film using a .72 finder.

When I don't want the added bulk using the 24/2.8, I leave the 24mm finder off the M4-P ( or M6TTL .72x) and frame out to the edges of the finder after taking my glasses off. I can then see outside the 28mm framelines by a little bit.

The framing error is minor, particularly if you're not working in very close, and once you get used to it you can predict how much more coverage is in the actual frame fairly easily.
