Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f/1.9 ASPH

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I am looking at this lens to complement my 35 and 50 Summicrons for use on my 0.58 M6 TTL. I hope we can get the best info on the VC28/1.9 in this thread for future references as well.

Some queries:

Any user inputs as to actual optical performance, especially wide open, including light-fall-off, corner sharpness, and distortion?

How is mechanical performance and build quality, including the M-mount adapter and focusing accuracy/mount-play?

Any good references or reviews of this lens elsewhere on the Internet?

Where is the best place to buy a new one, what prices have you seen?

How is handling on an M6, aperture, focusing, viewfinder blockage?

Thanks…

I can't answer any other questions about this lens, but Delta International sells it for $426.00.

Near the bottom of the main page, click on the "My Next Lens" link. There's a user report there (with photos).

I bought a Ultron 28/1,9 a month ago but I cant tell you nothing about the optical performace because most of the times I use T-Max 3200 and its difficult to judge.

You can see a photo made with the Ultron 28/1,9 and Tri-X Kodak film at my site: http://es.photos.yahoo.com/iso25000

you have to to open the ¨yahoo photo album¨ and look the last photo called ¨lusa¨.

If you want, you can see the rest of the photos maded with a Voigtländer 35/2,5 pancake.

The riots photos are maded with a 19-35 Cosina and Sigma 70-200 taken with a Nikon F

My first impressions of the Ultron have just been consolidated by further use. Cheers.

You can go at my site, open the yahoo photo album, and the photo called ¨lusa¨. It has been made with an Ultron 28/1,9 and Kodak Tri-X film.

I bought my 28 1.9 from Delta International also for the same amount. Just got it, gonna give it a work out this month. I think the build quality is better than my other VC lenses. The focusing is very nice and the "f" ring is damped so that stops are positive but no sharp clicking noises between them. Screw mount to M adapter rings work fine, I use them all the time. The lens hood freely rotates until tighted into place with a thumb screw so alingment is correct at any position the lens stops at on the screw mount (in some adapters, VC being one of them, the lens screws past 12 o'clock). There is quite a bit of intrusion into the lower right corner of the finder on my M6 but I don't have a problem with it. My M6 is a .72 so I can't compare it to your .58. Lutz posted some very nice images here in greenspun using the lens :

You can buy one from Stephen Gandy or Adorama.

While I'm at it... here's my rough sketch to give you some idea of the viewfinder obstruction produced. I did it for the twin thread but once it's uploaded it's easily shared... Cheers.
