About the br's score of Rainbow Islands

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Hell all

Why the br's score on Rainbow Islands still here ? He said himself he use a cheat mode that transform all hidden items in 10K bags. So, he made 2M over the normal score at the round he reach. It seems to me that Cheat Modes are forbidden here, no ?

I've nothing against br, but the rules must be the same for all.

Answers

there is a seacret command.
it makes seven digits counter to eight.

if you can get 9,999,990points but not know about it,I can tell you.
I really want to know how he gets the seacret command of extra version.
if he looked for and find it somewhere, blah!
but if he solved the puzzle of hint-E and hint-F(need Japanese language skill),and find out the meaning of curious figures which round 40 has,and finish this game seven times to get all password by himself ..and know it,I bow down and respect.
IT IS THE ACT OF RAINBOW MASTER.at least I admit.

sorry forget it...

Yes, if he made that, it's a good player. But there are two things.

1. With the Cheat Mode, he make only 3M on stage 13. He don't go very far. 2. The hi score made by Essekappa don't use this Cheat Mode (I verify the inp) and he make 18M. And Essekappa is really a Master of Rainbow Islands, I bow down and respect before him :-)

So, in fact, for me, the score of br don't respect the rule of Mame and the Cheat he use don't respect the spirit of the game. I think he must be zeroed. I don't know why it's not zeroed yet, he upload his score in May 2000.

Thanks for your reply, T.T. I don't need the Cheat for playing. I haven't need it for finish the game. I'll find it by myself in playing, but I'll never use it for make a score.

Hisa, I think he's referring my recording, not any of yours or ddr/essekappa's.

My feelings are that if any code doesn't make the game stupidly easy, then it's okay to use it, as this is a function available to anyone playing the arcade version (and trust me, people do use them a lot, especially on Bubble Bobble). Check out some of the Bubble Bobble recordings, particularly older ones, as some of these use the power up codes and so on.

It should also be noted that only one code can be used on Rainbow Island for any one game. And of course, both Hisa and ddr used a code on Rainbow Islands too, to get a score higher than 9,999,990.

what's wrong Hisa? can't delete your posts like you do your recordings?

-- BBH (lordbbh@aol.com), October 31, 2001.

Hey come on BBH, no bad blood between the guy and anyone :0)

Yes, I refferring your recording, Barry. OK, you can use the code for continue after the 5th or 6th island, but I think we musn't use the one who transform all hidden items on 10K bags. But, I see the record of Essekappa and he didn't use this code for make his 18M score.

I've another question. I'm a recent Marp user, and who is Hisa ? It seem he's a great player who didn't let his great scores too long in marp. But why ? If he made great score, I've the motivation for try to beat him. And, he'll be a great opponent to BBH (and later for my friend David Constant who have just buy his first PC, see him in the Olympiads).

Essekappa couldn't have used that code, as he would have needed to code to get more than 9,999,990 points. Like I said before, you can only use one code per game.

As for Hisa, he is a Japanese guy, and one great player. He just seems to have a few 'personality clashes', so to speak, with others. Not to mention a few different nicknames too (but he's not the only one) ;)

OK, I understood :-) Thanks for your explanations and good luck for the Olympiads.

Well, many Taito games have some sort of codes you can type to get items or power-ups and as far as I know they're all legal, if they worked on the original arcade machine as well (even the 10k bags code in rainbow island).

If you want to get some more information just point your browser to:

Note: you can leech points in the arcade but in some cases it's not legal at marp. I believe Francois is right by asking questions to keep special codes from being a leech attempt. I.E. yeah you can find out codes and tricks to give you a zillion points, but does that make you a better player who gets 20 million with out the easily found out special codes that anyone can do?

-- Chad (churritz@crash.cts.com), October 31, 2001.

I understood why the bag code is legal. Because only one code is possible on Rainbow Islands by game, it's only possible to make 9,999,999 with this code. So, no problem with your score Barry :-)

Blah.
but essecappa is better player than others.I think.

-- Hisa@Team2ch (weavuspert@yahoo.co.jp), November 01, 2001.

Thanks a lot, Hisa. I have to tell chad that the money bag code works the same for everyone: it is not leeching as you can get more points by not doing it (I did it on jumping only to "max out" the score, and I didn't even finished it. Actually you can make more than 9.999.990 finishing the game and getting the life bonus at the end). As for the 99milion counter on rainbowe, I discovered it by finishing the game 7 times, as I noticed that the unhidden letters were revealed depending on the last diamond you take; the letters are the same as in the secret doors in bobble bobble: there was an alphabet and a message on each door (and I still have the sheet where I wrote them down back in 1989) I'm sorry, Hisa, but I don't know japanese

P.S.: fortunately the rx-78 toon serie were dubbed in italian back in 1979

I'm not sure why Stefan still hasn't added the powerup codes to the MAME source... anyway, here is the complete list for both games;

Power Up data area for keycodes entered in at the Marquee screen Valid Codes are:

Rainbow Islands Extra Fast Feet: BLRBJSBJ SLLSRJRR Red Potion: RJSBJLBR JLSSSBRJ Yellow Potion: SSSLLRRS BRSLJSLJ Hint A: BJBJBJRS BJBJBJRS Hint B: LJLSLBLS LJLSLBLS Continue: LBSJRLJL LJLRSJJJ Money Bags: RRLLBBJS LLSBRRJB Money + Cont: RRRRSBSJ RSJRLBRS Hint C: SJBLRJSR SJBLRJSR 100M Counter: SRBJSLSB BBSSJJJJ Hint D: N/A BBJJRLSL Hint E: N/A LRSLRSJR Hint F: N/A SBJLSBRR

I have submitted code to dump the C-chip data from Rainbow Islands Extra, however we still haven't gotten the results that we need from the boards owner. If anyone out there has an original Rainbow Islands, or Rainbow Islands Extra PCB, and are willing/able to burn roms and run test code, please contact me. We'd love to see RIE fully functional in MAME (as well as clear up some shortcomings in RI)
