Sonny Davis' IBM ThinkPad i1400

Last night, I installed Windows 2000 Professional onto Sonny's laptop. Sonny had been having problems with his Windows 98 configuration on this machine and Dad offered my services to Sonny.

This machine only had 64 MB of ram and a 4 GB hard drive. Dad is going to purchase additional ram for the machine so Windows 2000 will be quicker.

I totally slicked the machine without attempting to save anything which existed on the hard drive. Installed Windows 2000 Professional, Office 2000 Professional and Adobe Acrobat 5.0. I also configured two dial in connections to StarPower, Sonny's ISP. I also configured the machine to automatically log in, rather than prompt for username and password. I created two local accounts on the machine. wmdavis with a password of co=oking and justincase with a password of letmein. Both accounts are in the local Administrators group. The machine automatically logs in using the wmdavis account.

The ISP connection was configured based on the information given to me by Sonny. I ended up having to call StarPower customer support to complete configuration because the userid was wrong. The userid is wmdavis@starpower.net and the password is co=oking. The POP3 server was pop.starpower.net and the SMTP server was smtp.starpower.net.
