Have you experienced any natural disasters?

At almost midnight, an hour ago, Tues. Oct. 30th, I experienced my first earthquake. I was pretty sure it was an earthquake about 15 sec after it happened because as I sat on the couch, I felt the jarring and bouncing go through my back first and then across my thighs and finally through my legs and feet hanging over the couch edge. I watched as the shake went across the room and rattled the stuff I have sitting on my Grandmother's piano. It was pretty surreal, like the TV I was watching had become the room and someone was jiggling the camera. I sat really still immediately afterwards and felt gentle, almost imperceptible, rippling aftershocks. No news whatsoever, no announcements on TV and a very brief and preliminary report on the radio that a 5.something hit in the desert.

I'm use to tornados, so I'm still a little unnerved.

We have had many flash floods, hurricanes, blizzards, and ice storms over the years. Thanks goodness we have not had anything major, knock on wood. Tornados are extremely rare on the Atlantic seaboard. But you know, come to think of it, Godzilla did go to New York City! That counts, don't it?
