I've never done this, but www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm has a page on using Virtual Dub to do this kind of conversion. It looks to be very simple to do, but again, I have never done this, so I can't help you if you have problems. Good luck.

Quicktime Pro 6 can do the exect job u require, i.e. direct conversion of MPEG1/MPEG2/MPEG3 to MPEG4. It works!
