MP2 audio to sound track on VCDgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
Hi, I would like to use my Sony DVD/SACD player DVP-NS700V to play video cds with the sound track derived from .MP2 audio (layer 2 MPEG). Here's the story. I am permitted here in the UK, to record radio off-air programme material for personal listening and I would like to do so. The broadcasts are via digital radio (DAB) PC card (DABStar)which records direct to hard disk and the audio files play back OK as .MP2 files on audio decoders such as NAD. In order to play on the Sony player I need to incorporate the .MP2 file into a video file and burn onto a CDROM. How do I get an .MP2 file and a video file (just a small black screen will do for the video content)in a form that I can use. Regards, Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm, I don't have an answer to your excellent question (I hope someone does though), but I did want to warn you about something. Sony DVD players are notorious for not supporting CD-R media. Some do, some don't. Even if someone can tell you how to do this, your DVD player may refuse to play CD-R media. Sometimes CD-RW media works though. You might want to go to www.vcdhelp.com and check out the DVD Player Compatibility List to see if anyone reports any problems with this model supporting CD-R/CD-RW media.

Why not simply convert the MP2 file into WAV and burn that as a regular CD to play in any conventional CD player?? Nero provides full abilities for turning MP2 and MP3 into WAV for subsequent burning into an true-blue audio CD. There may, however, be certain special attributes of your MP2 files (encryted, different sampling rate, ie, 32KHz, etc) that may hinder or abet them being converted to WAV by Nero.

You can do that using TMPEGenc.I make "mp3" cd's that way, to play on my SONY DAV-S300 system. In TMPEGenc, select the mp2 as audio source (try renaming it to .mpa, this might prevent TMPEGenc from re-encoding the audio), and select NOTHING as the video source.
I use the PAL vcd setting, but with a video bitrate of 250 kb i.s.o. 1150 kb. This permits you to recorde almost 4 hours of audio on a 74 min CD.
Try it out, but be warned : my Sony accepts CD-RW and only ONE brand of CR-R, namely That's Write 80 min CD-R's.
Good luck, Hans Bus

I do see several options here - but unfortunately can not offer a program choice which I actually know is working a) MPEG 1 Layer II audio in VCD movie (as you have suggested) This would require a multiplex of video with your audio source b) MPEG 1 Layer II audio 'as is' - since VCD 2.0 allows 'Play Items' consisting of audio only, too. c) CD-DA Track on a VCD - which needs a mpeg2wav and a CD Burner SW following the whole 9 yards of the VCD 2.0 spec - never saw this feature in a 'real life' player any only know spec test VCDs featuring that.I just checked my version of EasyCD Creator (5.0) which supports audio attachments (wav or mpeg) to Still Pictures. This is a little bit more complicated than my case b).

Since 2 days I have a SUPERVISION 2200 DVB-Player. It is a clone of a Mustek-DV560 - DVD Player. This player can play MPEG1+2 Videofiles in the "file-modus" and Audio-MPEG1-Layer1,2 and 3-files. To play layer2-files it is necessary to rename the DAB-recorded-files (*.msf) or the DVB2000-recorded-files (*.mp2) in *.mpg !!!!!!!! Only in this way the Supervision 2200 (and 2100) is able to find the Audiofiles!! To play is not the Problem - but to find....... But - don't burn a *.mp3-file on this CD!! Then he find only *mp3's......!! Better to rename all (*.mp2,*.mp3,*.msf) audio files in *.mpg!!!! on a mixed-layer-CD... for DAB-recording I have a DABSTAR-PCI-Card from Technotrend and for DVB2000-recording I use a D-Box1/via SCSI/ and the program "Streamreader".... So I burn no VCDs, only "Data-CDRs" with *mpg's and it' s working on my DVD-player... please excuse my "primitive english".......roger

Check this out, I used it on my pioneer 434. The audio was a bit skippy at points, but on my first attempt it was promising. i had over 21 songs on the cd and it only took about 18 meg. Use TMPGEnc and the template provided by vcdhelp.com:http://www.vcdhelp.com/Kevins-AudioVCD.zip
