Does the EOS 1n X sensor work at f4 or does it become vertical

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

With the EOS 1n will the cross sensor work with lenses that are slower than f2.8 or does it change into a horizontal sensor only? For example a 700-200 f2.8 with a 1.4 teleconverter or one of the macro lenses.

It become linear with any lens (or lens combination) slower than f/2.8. It still works pretty good though.

Only the EOS 1V and EOS 3 maintain cross-type high-precision to F4. The EOS 5 and EOS 30 can do cross-type normal precision to F5.6.

eos 5? the A2??? or the eos 50/ellan ii

EOS 5 = A2e (minor spec differences), EOS 30 = Elan 7e, EOS 33 = Elan 7, EOS 50e = Elan IIe. All those cameras have central points which cross-type AF at F5.6 or faster. However, unlike the sensors in the EOS 3, EOS 1V, or EOS 1N, which only go cross-type with faster lenses, the F5.6 X-type sensors only work to normal precision, whereas the more expensive cameras' sensors work at high-precision when in X-type mode.
