sly fox?

Is Bobby a sly old fox or what? I have just read a piece which is virtually saying that should Feyenoord get bumped out of the champs league (very very possible) then Brett Emerton will join us for 7 mil. Maybe the Sinclair stories are just a cunning way to cover up this activity whilst putting Barton et al on the 'list'. It goes on to say (albeit in Spanish) that JDT has persuaded him that SJP has the best fans in the country and we would be his perfect team ( he wants first team action) it goes on to say that Arsenal Man U and Liverpool are also interested...

Interestingly he says he wants to go somewhere where he'll get 'a chance of playing', i think it said - ie he may be reluctant to warm the bench at Man U, Arse etc. Sounds like someone Leeds might've gone for, had they not got Sethed up. So, Nobby and Bob/Warren, how do you fancy playing in Holland...?

Isn't the "JDT tells Emerton that Newcastle is fab" story an old one? I'm sure I read it (possibly here) some months ago. I like to think it's true, and if it is it's to the immense credit of JDT. I always felt like he gave his all when he played for us and was just never really suited to playing English football in the position KD chose to play him.

For what it's worth, I think Emerton is a terrific player (we used to see a fair bit of him down here before he went to Feyenoord) and he's got the balance of skill and a physical presence that could serve him well in the Premiership. I really rate Solano but I'm concerned that if we're going to accomodate Robert on one wing we may not be able to afford another soft bugger on the other. Emerton may not be as skillful as Solano but he's certainly a worker.

Interesting situation though - had this discussion with Nick and Tynedale Man over a few bottles of wine this evening and we reckon if we really want him (and are willing to pay for him) then he's ours. It sounds as though the lad really wants to actually play in the Premiership rather than sit on the bench and he's likely to get a lot more first team football at Newcastle than at Liverpool, Arsenal etc. On the other hand, they're all proven trophy winners and we're...... well I'm still harkin gback to our Texaco Cup win when I was about 2 years old!
