Quote of The Day

"You bet your life"
--Secretary Donald Rumsfeld when asked if America might assassinate terrorist bad guys

Therapy dogs arrive at WTC Memorial services to comfort families

Somebody Call The Prayer Police: Don Feder's morning essay pretty much sums up where we are at as winter rolls in. When the going gets tough grab a flag, head for church and raise their voices in a hymn to God and praise of our country. Let the ACLU squirm in their overnight irrelevance.

Lest We Forget: USA Today revisits the Levys in their pain. Remember them? We spent an entire summer gnashing our teeth at Condit. He shouldn't slide just because the world fell apart.

Patience and Fortitude: What about the phrases, "long struggle" and "collective resolve" did the media not understand? This New York Post editorial puts it all in perspective.

And, if you want a prime example of what they are talking about, get your Monday engine started with this piece of drivel in the London Mirror. Mr. John Pilger is probably going to wish he stayed home today.

Feeding the Beast: Howie Kurtz takes a look at the national media, desperate for something to gnaw on, turning on the administration's handling of the anthrax scare. Maybe if they could write about troop deployment, where the Rangers will attack next and our future plans for Iraq they could be distracted.

Move Over, Christiane: CNN's famous "War Slut" - (hey, don't write us, that's the New York Post's Andrea Peyser's name for her) Christiane Amanpour should not look around. A younger, "hipper" and clearly more ambitious talking head is gaining on her. MSNBC's new-moll-on-the-move and freshly brunette Ashleigh Banfield made her ready-for-combat bones by broadcasting from the dust storm at Ground Zero and is being profiled all over the media. The latest is this write up in today's New York Times. If you care, everything you wanted to know about her is right here.

Who You Calling White? The perpetually annoying U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.), begged a weekend audience to help her come up with a way to get through the white noise and make the media to put her ideas on the national agenda. Sounds like a racist statement to us. At least she won't have the help of that Saudi prince she tried to dazzle. Considering where that check has been since Rudy told him to "shove it" she probably doesn't want it now.

Have a Cipro-free day. We are off to microwave our copies of the New Yorker and Vanity Fair. Something we did even before anthrax.

Your Better Safe Than Sorry LComStaff
