Its Monday-time to think stumper

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Its time and you were not here this weekend, so you should be rested and ready. With the flu and cold season on its way, complete with stuffy noses: What three odors do American adults recognize most easily and often? An extra warn and fuzzy if you can put them in order. These are everyday common scents found in most households.

Its 28 "disagrees" here this morning, crisp white decorations on the ground, waiting to be swept away by the rolling sunshine comming over the mountain side now. Three of my fuzzy buddies are grazing whats left of the grass, two nibbling, the third on watch ready to raise that wide white tail in alarm. The squrriels are still in hiding, they come out at about 10:00 when its warm enough to move more freely. Enough; do the puzzle....

good Morning Mitch! I'm going to guess: Baking bread, vanilla, pine

-- Melissa (cmnorris@1st.net), October 29, 2001.

Good morning, Mitch! I'm going to guess, too.

Apple pie, pumpkin pie, and chocolate chip cookies.

Okay, my brain is still asleep, but evidently my stomach is wide awake! I'm going to go get some breakfast now. :-)

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), October 29, 2001.

Coffee!! and backon!! and choc chip cookies!!!!!! can you tell I am a big old gal LOL

-- Teresa (c3ranch@socket.net), October 29, 2001.

Guesses around the breakfast table: skunk, bacon, wet beds.

-- Cathy N. (keeper8@attcanada.ca), October 29, 2001.

Cathy, I hate to mention this, but wet beds and skunk are NOT common in most of OUR households. ;o)~

I would guess (1)"sour" as in way too old milk. THen perhaps... (2) smoke... can smell that across the field... then maybe.... (3)rain? People says it smells like rain... right? If I mentioned the dirty diapers then you can not smell anything after that for a good couple of hours, since your nose shuts down in protest. :o)

-- notnow (notnow05@yahoo.com), October 29, 2001.

I'm going to guess-vanilla, cinnimon and coffee.

-- Kelly in Ky (ksaderholm@yahoo.com), October 29, 2001.

Readers, please focus on the exact question. Rain, smoke, skunk, wet beds are not common household items. The hint before the question should be taken into account also. What I am trying to teach here, via these stumpers is connected thinking, a trait common to the Mensa crowd. Connected thinking is the self taught ability to perceve another persons orentiation at the time they ask a question. Having this ability allows more efficiant and understood comunication. One odor has been mentioned, I am going shopping, be back this afternoon.

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), October 29, 2001.

Ahhhh, come on Mitch!! I smell smoke in my house everyday! Especially when the kids forget to open the damper when they are building a fire and the entire house fills with smoke, 10 minutes before company is supposed to arrive (Thanks Kadia!). I guess my pine answer isn't right either!!!

-- Melissa (me@home.net), October 29, 2001.

around my house it would be cat and baby pooh, maybe gas from the furnace and bleach or cleaning items I use just about everyday.

Okay, we pause in our school day to try again. How about coffee, body/foot odor, peanut butter?

-- Cathy N. (keeper8@attcanada.ca), October 29, 2001.

Okay, I've got to try again....

Coffee, Oranges, Pumpkin Pie. (I know I've guessed pumpkin pie twice now, but I REALLY want some pumpkin pie!)

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), October 29, 2001.

I would have to say coffee, bacon and woodsmoke. And I want a piece of the pumpkin pie to go with the coffee and bacon!!!!!!!!

-- Micheale from SE Kansas (mbfrye@totelcsi.net), October 29, 2001.

I just know that baking bread is one of the answers! and I will guess coffee, and cinnamon.

-- Melissa (me@home.net), October 29, 2001.

If it has to do with stuffy noses, my first guess would be Vicks Vapo- rub. Second would be Lysol. Third is Chicken Soup. That is what we could smell during cold and flu season growing up!

-- Jo (mamamia2kids@msn.com), October 29, 2001.

Coffee, cinnammon, ammonia ?

-- j.r. guerra (jrguerra@boultinghousesimpson.com), October 29, 2001.

O.K., I am back from shopping; two items have been mentioned; the third item is not for internial use, can you guess between these lines? If not, then go back to my second post and reread.

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), October 29, 2001.

A Home Perm peeee-U LOL really not a clue. We want answers!!

-- Teresa (c3ranch@socket.net), October 29, 2001.

My guess is paste or glue, then coffee and baking bread.

-- Julie (julieamc@eagleslair.net), October 29, 2001.

It looks like I am going to have to draw you a picture, maybe a pretty rainbow?

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), October 29, 2001.

Okay..... coffee, oranges and paint.

I still want some pumpkin pie, though.

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), October 29, 2001.

Onions, garlic, lemon and vanilla!

-- Laura (LadybugWrangler@hotmail.com), October 29, 2001.

O.K. Kids, what does this post and the last two have as a common theme? This consept of connected thinking is going to be harder that I thought; I assume that when I say "this post and the last two" you understand that I am talking about MY last posts, not just the two above this one. One of the sought items, mentioned enough allready is coffee, the second one was mentioned once, the third has not yet surfaced (yes that was a hint word, one of the two in this post, there is a third that could be associated but it would be a vague long shot). The third one recalls past pleasure. Do the thinking.

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), October 29, 2001.

Does this mean I don't get any pumpkin pie?

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), October 29, 2001.

People please: CONNECTED THINKING!! Guess between these LINES. DRAW a picture. RAINBOW, KIDS, PAST PLEASURES. The second item is peanut butter, mentioned once, and number three is ......? Please be glad that I am slinging hints not frozen chickens!!

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), October 29, 2001.

CRAYONS...!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I get it Mitch? Huh? Huh?

-- lesley (martchas@bellsouth.net), October 29, 2001.

Yes, crayons is the third item most easylie recognized odor for adult Americans to identify when they have trouble or restricted smelling capabilities. O.K. We have coffee, peanut butter, and now crayons, in what order......?

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), October 29, 2001.

crayons, peanut butter, coffee
