Fergie, Min. Poodle, had 4 puppies a week ago. One weighed only 3 3/8 oz. After a week a sleepless nights putting her on a nipple and holding her there regularly and just making sure she didn't get crushed, she's up to 5 1/2 oz. I am puzzled by Fergie's behavior with her. She seems especially protective -- keeping her under her chin much of the time. But she frequently picks her up, takes her out of the box, walks her around the room and eventually puts her back. It is similar to how she behaves when she is looking for a place to bury a treat. I have seen no signs of her rejecting the pup -- pushing her away, etc. Any idea what she has in mind?
