Possible problems for greenspun

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

I saw on Current News that this server is no longer being maintained and that if it goes down again, it may very well stay down. So I guess we need to hook up to another service. I'm looking at a few. If anyone has any ideas for other locales and formats that aren't repugnant please list a url below. Thanks a bunch!

Doreen, when the forum went down, we emailed directly to Phil Greenspun and got an automatic response that stated he was travelling and was no longer maintaining the lusenet forums and it gave that other e-mail address. the next day we got a personal response from Mr. Greenspun that he was sending a friend over to fix the problem.

I think an alternate site would be nice, but this format is absolutely the easiest for me and its been the cleanest. Perhaps some very nice letters to Phil telling him how much we appreciate his creativity, hard work and mercy on us who can't function without lusenet forum friends.

Yahoo Groups works well. We are members of about a dozen groups there. There is flexibility in setting them up. One advantage is that you have the option of receiving each post as an email, as a digest of 25 posts grouped together, or no email at all, in which case you would need to log on to the Yahoo Group site to view the posts. Anyone can start a group and it can have an open membership or by invitation only.

I like this format much better than Yahoo Groups, but they may be the best alternative. I like the format for the Timebomb2000 forum, too, but that one isn't free. I think it only costs about $5/month, though, and I'd be willing to chip in for a month if you decided to go that way, Doreen.
