Airport security (Current events)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hey, folks here's a reson for fedreral control of air port security if I've ever seen one. This an ad being published in the Grand Forks Herald in Grand Forks North Dakota. " Globe Airport Security is accepting applicationd for pre-board screeners. If you are interested in supplementing your income or retired & just need something to do, call 772-1098 to set up an appt." Wow, I feel lazy just reading the ad, I'm sure they are attracting many top notch candidates with that ad. We need to take security more seriously.

What they need to be looking for is retired Military. They usually need more to live on than they get in retirement pay, and they know how to deal with people.

Response to Air port security

There was an article some time ago about the National Guard guys at a major airport (can't remember which one, maybe LAX) keeping watch for terrorists. And there was even a picture of one of them, standing there with his semi-automatic. With no magazine in it. That's right, no ammo. I wish someone high up had the nads to admit that in reality the government cannot prevent random acts of terrorism. What I'd give for Bush to stand up there and say, "We'd have to enact a police state to stop terrorism in this country, and I won't do that. So I ask every competent American to buy a gun and learn how to use it." Unfortunately many Americans are afraid of that responsiblity.

My dog seems kind of bored lately. Maybe he could just sniff the people as they walked by. He's not trained for sniffing bombs or drugs, or anything other than cats, but it doesn't sound like they need anyone with training anyway. And he could keep people from smuggling cats on board! I mean, if terrorists can take over planes using box knives, can you imagine what they could do with a riled up kitty?!?

I agree with you Del. We DEFINITELY need to take security much more seriously. And Gita, I wish more people thought the way you do. As for the national guard guys with no ammo, maybe that's why they call it LAX! They're being somewhat lax in their duties!

You don't get very much for minimum wage (masters degree a plus).

Last week we flew from Dulles in DC through Cleveland and into Grand Rapids and back. When we went through Dulles security they were very thorough In spite of the fact that they were standing very rigid and fully armed (Bullets???), I never noticed the national guard in DC. My husband couldn't beleive it. He said they stood at attention fully dresses in Camo looking like it you sneezed crooked they would be on you. I said that was why I didn't see them. Camo is standard garb this time of year in our house - archery, muzzle loader,pheasant..... In Grand Rapids, the smallest airport, the security was much more noticeable. Probably because it was a smaller airport. Come to think of it, they also employed "older" people to do security. Maybe that isn't such a bad idea. A retired person may have much more on the ball then someone in an 'entry level' position.
